Billy Two Shoes

Workin' up the second record.

About Me

Billy Two Shoes is workin' up our next record. It's been a few months since we had some Billy music time, so it's great to get back into the seat. We're hoping that we'll get everything wrapped up by the end of October, and at this point it's lookin' pretty good. We're still sellin' records and sending the money down to the food pantries. We'll be passing the $1000 mark at the beginning of August, and we're hoping that we'll be doubling that by the end of the year. We reckon only time will tell, and we thank you much, all those folks who have picked up records since march and have helped us put a little food on the table for some people who need a helping hand.

You can buy our first record, "Appalachian Memoirs" for $10 and help Billy feed some people who really need it. Billy Two Shoes will be donating $7 from every Paypal purchase to food banks in Gallia County OH and Logan County WV. We greatly appreciate your support!!!Or if you don't want a Billy record, but still want to help you can make a donation here...every dollar helps!
You can also contact us via email at [email protected]
We wanted to give a quick thanks also to those good people who have donated a few extra dollars this month to send down to the food pantries. Those people really appreciate it, thanks much for your kindness.
Our families have lived in in Southeastern OH and 'round Logan WV for the last couple hundred years. In these times, it occurs to us that many people down there are making choices, like the choice between gas and food, feedin’ their family or getting’ to work, or just plain feedin' their family.
We sincerely thank all of those for their support over the last few months. There have been some really kind people from all over the country that have shown Billy their good wishes. Please visit some of those musicians in our friends list. They have been very kind to us, and it shows it’s face as the greater good, and that people, in their heart, care ‘bout others, and are willing to reach out and give their support to strangers.
Special thanks to Jennifer in TX, The Tug Creek Ramblers, Big Smith, A. Rock and Kasey Rausch for all of the kindness and help they given us. We really appreciate it.

Billy's Story...
Billy Two Shoes came about in late 2007, when a couple old friends decided to do a little recording dedicated to their time spent in Southeastern Ohio. "Appalachian Memoirs" is a collection of songs that we have written in homage to the hills where we spent many a day fishing, chucking stones into the river, drinking beers, driving the back roads and watching the waters. This album is dedicated to the people and culture of Southeastern Ohio, their independence and their heritage.
The "Appalachian Memoirs" album was recorded in one weekend in Mid-January. A large portion of the songs were written and arranged just as we began the first evening of recording. Additionally, all of the artwork that you see posted here was done by Jason over that same weekend while we were tracking.
We sent the record down to Rob Fugate of Mind Ignition for a little help and mastering. Huge thanks to Rob for making some time to help Billy out. Scotty Boombox of Ocean Ghosts put together the artwork for us.
Thanks for checkin' up with Billy, and we'll catch y'all real soon.

These three go way back in thier Appalachian roots. Dan and James used to spend many nights as teenagers sitting on the banks of the Ohio River, starting across the dark water to the hills of West Virginia, contemplating the ways of the world. You could hear the train running along the valley and echoing through the hillsides. The riverboats churned as they slipped through the water, their diesel engines giving off a low rumble which rattled the windows as they slowly passed us by. Their heaping loads of coal moving up the river, and providing another day's wage.
Jason and Dan met at Rio Grande, a small college in the hills of Gallia County. They packed up thier music and headed to Memphis, Tennessee for a couple of years. James moved down to Memphis also, but only stayed for a few months. In that time, Jason and James spent many an hour playing wiffle ball in the back yard between shifts at the Mr. Pride car wash and the Circle K. Many years and much music later, Jason and James decided to take a weekend for themselves and create a record which reflected their time in appalachia. The end result is what you now hear from Billy Two Shoes, their "Appalachian Memoirs".
Influences: Hillpeople and moonshine, Appalachian culture and the river, bluegrass and poverty, triscuits and cheese, the low rumble of the barges moving up the river, fog sitting in the valley, selflessness, dirt roads and gravel thoroughfares, the backwoods unwritten codes, camping stories and nights at the farm, coal sheds stocked for winter, dogs and cats sitting on couches, sleepy small towns, tobacco fields, rusty cars sitting on the hillside, springtime afternoons at the lake, crows in the cornfields, the compulsion to set things ablaze, insanity to the left, water on the right.
Sounds Like: Some say old Pink Floyd, some say Appalachian Ween
The Billies are working on some new songs, and have about fourteen written, and working a few more before we start cutting them. We're thinkin' that we'll stick with the gorilla session approach, cause that was a big part of the way this first one turned out. We'll keep you posted. We're hoping to finish up the record be the end of October.
We really 'preciate all of the support that we have received from so many musicians around the country, and Billy asks you to take a couple of minutes to go and visit some of our friends. These people are doin' some great music, and Billy would be greatful if you gave them a listen too!
