In June of 2003, brothers Jason Hildebrand (guitar – ex-Hazarax, ex-Cemetery Earth, ex-Funeral Mask) and Justin Hildebrand (drums - ex-Heidnik, Witness to the End) wanted to create a new band to crank out some extreme metal. Early Napalm Death-style grindcore was the basic influence, with some Boltthrower/Autopsy-style Death Metal thrown in for good measure. That’s what we grew up listening to, that’s what fueled our fire to create.
After just one rehearsal, guitarist-turned-bassist Ron Wojcik (ex-Hazarax, ex-Cemetery Earth, ex-Funeral Mask) was brought in to round out the three-piece attack. Within that year the first demo ‘Crush ‘Em All’ was recorded with Jason and Justin providing vocals in the studio. Vocalist Mike Trush (ex-Deteriorate) was brought in shortly thereafter. The next two years were spent sharpening the live assault and writing more material along the way. In 2005, the second demo ‘Refuse to Obey’ was released. Shortly after this recording some line-up changes occurred resulting in Justin leaving the band being replaced by longtime friend Russ Gale (ex-Hazarax) on drums. This line-up lasted for almost a year when suddenly Russ departed, followed by Mike’s exit to focus on other projects.
It looked like Dead in the Face was over, but thanks to a close friend who introduced Jason to drummer Dan Brown (ex-Strik9) and vocalist Joe Rakowski (Hollow-Point) at the end of 2006, a new line-up was born and some much needed energy was back in the band. This re-vamped version of DitF spent most of 2007 rehearsing the tunes and playing live once again. In Oct/Nov of ’07, DitF entered 1021 Studios in Tullytown, PA. to record their first full-length ‘Hammer Rage’. This recording proves to be the strongest yet, and is just another step forward for a band who refuses to quit and is above all, FANS OF EXTREME METAL!!.
THE HAMMERS WILL COME DOWN ON YOU ALL!!!
