Timo Vollbrecht

Hi. My name is Timo. I am a saxophone player. I was born in a small town in the west of Germany, called Stadthagen. Together with my two sisters and my parents I lived there first 16 years of my life before moving to the USA to see what it is like to spend a year in place like Wyoming. After graduating from High School/"Gymnasium" I did a year of civil service working with mentally disabled people. In 2005 I moved to Berlin to study jazz saxophone and improvised music with Peter Weniger. I have had the great honor to meet and study with extraordinary people such as John Hollenbeck, David Friedman, Jim Black, Chris Potter and Guillermo Klein. After some years of playing with the band Tee mit Sahne (which included one of my best friends Fidelis Hentze) I formed a group, together with friends and wonderful musicians. We called us "MSV Brecht" and are eager to play concerts in and outside of Berlin. Hopefully we will get the chance to record a CD sometime soon. Besides that I play in a trio which dedicates itself to the music of Stan Getz, Chet Baker and Gerry Mulligan. I have also had the pleasure to meet great musicians and people in the "German Jazz Orchestra" (BuJazzO). Meanwhile I decided to move down to Barcelona, Spain to see what life and music is like in another angle of the world. It has been a stunning experience so far. I am meeting interesting people and musicians and I am forming my own group right now. I have been taking advantage of the liberty I am sensing down here composing and looking for what my heart tells me musically. I am searching for people who want to share life and music with me, such as for people who like to play and exchange beautiful and honest music. All the good things. And hope to see you soon. Timo
