BISHOP THOMAS GARFIELD HAYWOOD
In 1925 Bishop G.T. Haywood became the first presiding bishop of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the World (PAW). The PAW was one of the first broad based interracial Christian organizations of that era. The PAW was born out of the Azusa street revivals in L.A California. The organization later moved to Indianapolis IN., where it remains today.
Bishop Haywood founded and pastored Christ Temple Church in Indianapolis. His ministry impacted the city in such a way that a great portion of Fall Creek Boulevard was renamed Bishop G.T. Haywood Memorial Parkway.
Bishop Haywood continued to spread the gospel through publications, songs, preaching, teaching and establishing churches nationally. Some of his many writings include "Before The Foundation Of The World," "The Victim Of The Flaming Sword," and "The Finest Of The Wheat." He was also famous for writing blood songs often sung today during communion services. These include, "Crimson Stream Of Blood," "Washed In The blood," and "Face To Face."
