John Symon Asher Bruce (Jack)

Jack Bruce is one of the rare breed of musicians who can play BASS & SING at the same time (just ask any bass-player how difficult it is!) He's also a master of the "BLUES HARP" ...oh yeah , and he writes music, plays cello, double-bass and piano as well. He's a progressive musician,loves to hear & experiment with new sounds BUT his first love was Jazz, then the Blues , then Rock - He adores to turn those amps up LOUD........Jack is mostly recognised being the singer /songwriter /bass-player & quiet one of the (extremely influential) rock trio CREAM , with ERIC clapton & GINGER baker.All three were naturally talented and passionate musicians ......these boys could PLAY, with a capital "P" (they KNEW they were the Cream of the Crop of the British blues/jazz musicians of the 60's and named themselves accordingly - NOBODY argued!)Jack grew up in a working-class , typically-volatile BUT mostly MUSICAL Scots house in Glasgow. His father loved JAZZ, his older brother Charlie loved modern jazz (the volatile arguements?!). Jack's mother sent him to music lessons, which ultimately led to a scholarship to RSAMD when he was 17 for cello and composition (he started cello as he was too short for the double-bass!). BUT, Jack didnt take to the classical world ..too rigid & structured , too snobby......he loved BACH , but he loved playing his double-bass in jazz bands too !! Jack "EXITed-STAGE-LEFT" from the RSAMD .....he wanted to play the music that was in HIS head..JACK set off for London in 1960 at 17.......and embarked on the musical journey that is still his life. Jack never compromises or conforms musically. It's a tough and gutsy line to follow ,as non-conformity always get you into trouble, but it is an infinitely more rewarding line.There's SO much more , but Im now going to shut up as the history is no where near as interesting as the music.______________________________________________________ ___ Here a video taken at Hippiefest , where JACK is appearing right now...
