About Me

The latest news from www.bobbyyang.com :
May 2008
It doesn't get much better than summertime in the Rockies. Warm. Green. Bugless. That's where Bobby and the band will be spending a lot of time over the next few months. Don't miss the first two mountain-town shows: May 31st in Leadville, Colorado, and June 5th in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. The only thing that we think may be equally good is Bobby's upcoming double show at Eddie's Attic on June 20th in Atlanta. Bobby and the band will premiere their new themed show: "Her Majesty's Three." What is it? To find out, get your June 20th tickets now at www.eddiesattic.com. Oh, and don't forget your flights for the two Colorado shows at www.frontierairlines.com. You deserve a vacation.
April 2008
Just announced, Bobby and the boys will play in Houston, TX, at Dan Electro's Guitar Bar (1031 E 24th St) at 10:00PM on Friday, May 2nd. And, southeastern fans unite as Bobby brings his sound to the outdoor stage of Sandy Springs, Georgia's Entertainment Lawn (6075 Sandy Springs Circle NE) at 6:00PM on Wednesday, April 23rd.
The last two weeks have been a stretch for Bobby's road legs, with stops in New York, Georgia, South Carolina, Phoenix, Las Vegas, Denver and Beaver Creek, Colorado!
March 2008
Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players landed in New York City in mid-March for three engagements: a one-night-only rockshow at Sullivan Hall (214 Sullivan St) in the West Village, a master class presentation for the orchestral students of Lawrence High School, and a private concert in the grand belly of NYC's Gotham Hall.
A big titanium thank you goes out to Connolly and Co. and Thomastik-Infeld for sponsoring Bobby's industry showcase and educational session at the 2008 American String Teachers Association National Conference. Emphasizing the importance of practice and passion was the basis of Bobby's presentation, and the band performed several songs throughout the session - showing string teachers and attendees from around the world how the acoustic wooden violin is the ideal instrument for everything rock.
Cradled in the shadows of a T-Rex skeleton and the warm glow of yellow uplights, Bobby and the band performed in the Houston Museum of Natural Science for the HMNS's annual gala on March 1st.
February 2008
First of all, go to the store and get the new logo tee. It is a must have for all fans. Now on to the news... With Dale Chihuly's "Confetti" Chandelier dangling over their heads, Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players helped the young art patrons of the Wichita Art Museum rock out at their 2nd annual benefit for the museum. While the crowd sipped the theme-colored "blu" martinis, Bobby led the Unrivaled Players through some toe-tapping dance jams that are increasingly becoming a part of the Yang set.
Inspired by some dance fever, Bobby purchased a new synthesizer and a looping pedal before celebrating the Chinese New Year with a concert in Telluride, Colorado, at the thriving new restaurant come concert venue Las Montanas. Finishing up the mountain town tour, the boys headed over to Park City, Utah, for two sold-out nights at The Spur, where they serve mighty good food and have a mighty good staff. (Nicole rocks!) Bobby will spend the last couple of days this month talking to the teachers at the American String Teachers Association National Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He plans to tell them to stop asking him for all his secrets and to put the strap-on violins back in the closet. Hopefully, that goes well. We'll keep you posted!
January 2008
A big Yang thank you to the 440 fans who attended the sold-out Eddie's Attic double show on January 12th! Bobby and the band had a blast. Thanks to Leslie, Jenners and Mark of 99X for their help in promoting the shows. A NEW T-SHIRT will be available for purchase at the BobbyYang.com STORE starting January 14th. Wear it well.
December 2007
Bobby was on the road again in November with the Costner team. Although Hurricane Noel tried hard to keep Modern West away from the Bahamas, the band finally arrived via private plane from Miami and put on a show for the Atlantis guests. Bobby fell in love with Bobby Flay's pork tenderloin at Mesa Grill and had some good times pool side at The Cove. A-Rod was hanging out pool side as well, and Bobby collected some hitting karma before heading to Tampa Bay for a performance for the newly christened "Rays". (That's right. Drop the "Devil".) Modern West performed an outdoor show celebrating the new name and the release of the new jersey, which Bobby got to don at batting practice with the team at Tropicana Field. Bobby won't put down his fiddle for a bat anytime soon, but he made some line drives.
November 2007
Bobby finished up his season with a series of performances in the low country. The Unrivaled Players rocked out at a low country boil with celebrity chef Tyler Florence at The Inn at Palmetto Bluff. (The Inn has the best tree house ever.) As the month came to an end, Bobby decided to take some time off, but he will kick off the new year with a New Year's Eve performance in Chattanooga.
October 2007
Fresh from a performance at the one and only Palmilla on the southernmost tip of Mexico's Baja Peninsula, Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players are hot on the rock mariachi trail this month with in-school master classes, a couple of Georgia shows and a few long-distance band excursions to Cincinnati, Dallas and Los Angeles. Bobby has also been serving it up el diablo with Kevin Costner and Modern West as Kevin's band has shows in Kansas City, Rome (Italy), Istanbul (Turkey), Tampa and the Bahamas over the next three weeks.
This just in! Thanks to Thomastik-Infeld of Austria, Bobby will give a keynote presentation and live performance at the 2008 American String Teachers Association National Conference in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Bobby is proudly endorsed by Thomastik-Infeld of Austria, maker of Bobby's violin strings of choice: Thomastik-Infeld Vision Titanium.
September 2007
A hearty thank you to the over 950 fans of all ages who attended the two shows in Swainsboro, GA this week. Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players (Mark Cobb, Ben Holst, Franher Joseph, and special guest Takana Miyamoto) had a blast performing at East Georgia College. Thanks to all of the members of The Atlanta Pops Orchestra for their enthusiastic performance of Bobby's arrangements! The guys had a blast at The Pub in Albany on Sept 15th and at the Atlanta Arts Festival at Piedmont Park on Sept 16th.
August 2007
Bobby and his band head West again this week through Colorado and Utah for some really cool club shows, followed by a tour through Virginia and Georgia. The next month is gonna be a crazy one! See you on the road!
After a 5200-mile show tour from Georgia to Michigan to Colorado, Bobby and his Unrivaled Players came home to two sold out shows at Eddie's Attic on August 3rd. The Eddie's shows were milestones in rock history as both shows were wholly improvised, without setlists or intermissions, and performed on wooden instruments. Thanks to the 403 fans who came out to share the experience with us! Thank you to Tim, Leslie, Sean and Jenners of 99X's The New Morning X for having Bobby on their show last week.
On August 5th, Bobby joined Kevin Costner and Modern West for a show at The Sunshine Theatre in Albuquerque, New Mexico. The word in Albuquerque is that Bobby will take part in Kevin's first independent film entitled "Swing Vote" which will premiere in 2008. Keep an eye on the CALENDAR for more Modern West shows (August 9th in California is the next one) and for movie release dates of Kevin Costner movies featuring Bobby Yang!
July 2007
July is the hottest month of the year, and Bobby is taking cues from the weather man, as his performances promise to only get hotter in July. Bobby kicked off the month by celebrating July 4th with Kevin Costner in Aspen. To pay tribute to America, Bobby hit a homer on Costner's private baseball field and ate Hickory House BBQ. The festivities were a warm up for a performance with Kevin Costner on 7/7/07 in Lake Tahoe at Harrah's Casino.
Hot sets continued on July 12th at the Melting Point in Athens as Bobby and his Unrivaled Players fused rock and roll with super jam band acrobatics. Thanks to the Athens Banner-Herald for the cool write-up; read it .:HERE:.
The last two weeks of July take Bobby and the band through Wisconsin, Michigan (two shows!), Aspen and the Boulder, Colorado area. Check the CALENDAR for exact dates, locations and times!
June 2007
Happy summer solstice as Bobby and his Unrivaled Players barnstorm the coolest venues and clubs in the hottest corners of North America! On Friday June 22nd Bobby and the band received two standing ovations while opening for Grand Funk Railroad at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater! On Saturday June 23rd fans experienced two Yang shows in Athens, Georgia - the first at AthFest followed by a supremely rowdy second at the Boars Head downtown - YANG IT YANG IT! June wouldn't be June without a late-June tour through Alabama, Louisiana and Texas as well. Check the CALENDAR for exact dates, locations and times!
On June 16th Bobby and the boys had a blast rocking the 8000 attendees of the Savannah Asian Festival, it was a great event, down to the Indian food in the green room! Bobby wants to hold the Taiwanese flag during the SAF opening ceremonies next year...
May 2007
After touring 18 states in 18 days, Bobby and the crew rolled back into Atlanta on the 20th and got up bright and early to rehearse with the 200-member Garrett Middle School Orchestra. Bobby and his Unrivaled Players will be performing concerto-style with the Garrett Middle School Orchestra at the Mable House Barnes Amphitheater on May 21st.
April 2007
After a whirlwind month thru Atlanta, Chattanooga, Las Vegas, Denver, Aspen, Miami, the Cayman Islands and Nashville, Bobby Yang will spend the next two weeks recuperating and rehearsing for an ambitious YANG IT! May tour from Texas towards the Northeast. Bobby is currently recording with Kevin Costner and Modern West, the new 'A-list' band out of Santa Barbara, California. Expect to hear gun-smokin' violin solos and movie western-like string arrangements when the album becomes available.
March 2007
Making plans to be at Aspen Highlands' ZG Grill at 3:00PM on Saturday, March 31st? It's an encore, pull-no-punches rock 'n' roll brawl of violin brawn and brain as Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players present a free fan appreciation show in Aspen, Colorado! Fan appreciation week continues as Bobby and the band cruise over to North Atlanta's Wild Wing Cafe in Alpharetta on Wednesday, April 11th for another free fan appreciation show! Don't miss 'em - "I would be nothing without my fans and my band," says Bobby. His favorite part of performing? "Meeting the fans after the shows after playing my heart out on stage," answers Bobby.
Huge Yang-sized thank yous to the 374 Yang fans who tipped the scales at Eddie's Attic on March 10th! Atlanta's most dedicated rock connoisseurs witnessed two shows full of never-before-heard Yang originals and inspired classics. Is there an original EP in sight?
Hockey fans in Atlanta have two words to say about Bobby Yang's anthem performances in Philips Arena: YANG IT! The NHL Atlanta Thrashers are undefeated when Bobby starts the game with his signature solo anthems - watch for Bobby during the playoff season around the corner...
Bobby will be performing with Kevin Costner and Modern West in the Grand Cayman Islands in April - check out Bobby's MySpace and the VIDEO section of bobbyyang.com for more scoop on this new collaboration!
February 2007
A gargantuan snowbank of thanks goes out to the hundreds of raging Aspen fans who barnstormed the ZG Grill at Aspen Highlands for Bobby's final Ski-Town Tour show on Sunday, February 18th! Bobby, Mark Cobb, Nick Niespodziani and Peter Olson played a chilled-Tuaca-charged five-and-a-half-hour set under the afternoon sun while overlooking the two feet of fresh snow that fell over the weekend. Thanks to Torre and Sari at Plum TV for their help in promoting the show as Bobby and the boys performed "The Physics Of Giving" and "War Pigs" on live TV at the breakfast hour.
More news: Bobby will be playing lead violin with Kevin Costner in two 90-minute concerts of original music at Rocks in Santa Barbara on Friday, February 23rd and at the NASCAR Auto Club 500 at the California Speedway on Sunday, February 25th in front of an estimated 80,000 fans!
The ski-town tour kicked off successfully as Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players rocked a sold-out crowd of over 400 at the Wichita Art Museum on the way out West. Fans from Vail and Beaver Creek descended onto the Feb 8th show thanks to Ted Alvarez's 1000-word feature on Bobby in the Vail Daily News. Click .:HERE:. to read it. Denver mile-highers discovered new heights on Feb 9th as Bobby and his band joined forces with Atlanta's Y O U for a knockout violin-led encore set including "War Pigs," "Kashmir," and "Freebird."
January 2007
Ludwig Van Beethoven once said that music should strike fire from the heart of a man, and bring tears from the eyes of a woman. Accompanied by the Atlanta Pops Orchestra, Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players struck fire, brought tears and rocked their hearts out last night in front of 446 adoring fans at the Theatre Dublin in Dublin, Georgia. "I was completely blown away. Bobby and his band can eat the Trans-Siberian Orchestra for lunch," said a local Arts Council patron.
The show was a giant leap for acoustic violinists worldwide. "You couldn't bribe me with a million bucks to perform on an electric violin. Violin students need to realize there is SO much more rock potential using the wooden instruments they already own. You're shooting yourself in the foot if you fall for the electric violin scam. Don't do it. Yang it instead," says Bobby. Catch the next string of YANG IT! shows including the February ski-town tour and the March 10th double-show at Eddie's Attic!
December 2006
Couped up in a western Colorado retreat, Bobby has been arranging and scoring orchestra parts for his January 13th debut with the Atlanta Pops Orchestra. Bobby and his Unrivaled Players (Mark Cobb, Tak Nakazawa, Rob Henson) will join unrivaled pianist Takana Miyamoto and the Atlanta Pops in a musical event appropriately entitled, "CLASSICS ROCK." The band will pay tribute to Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, Led Zeppelin, Prince, Rush and The Rolling Stones, all with full orchestral accompaniment! Bobby and Takana (Creative Loafing's Best Instrumentalist and Best Jazz Act of 2006, respectively) will play as a duo for the first time as well. Need we say more?
Check out this month's issue of Aspen Peak Magazine which features five photos of Bobby in various states of performing and hanging out with Kevin Costner, EKS Events' Elizabeth Slossberg, guitarist Teddy Morgan and crew.
November 2006
We are SO PROUD of our fans! A heartfelt THANK YOU goes out to the 355 Yang fans who hollered, screamed, laughed and cried at Bobby's sold-out CD release shows at Eddie's Attic on Friday night. It was a stunning YANG IT! Live at Eddie's Attic release. Bobby Yang and his Unrivaled Players (Mark Cobb, Rob Henson, Tak Nakazawa) improvised two 13-song sets of quintessential rock, including blistering renditions of Eruption, Welcome to the Jungle, Hot For Teacher, War Pigs, and their signature Kashmir. Misti and the crew at BobbyYang.com thank FOX 5 Television, Clear Channel's 96Rock, and WABE National Public Radio for their help in promoting the shows.
Congratulations to Terri Holland of Calhoun, GA, the winner of the YANG IT! Trip for Two to New York City giveaway, sponsored by AirTran Airways!
October 2006
Bobby Yang inks a string endorsement deal with Thomastik-Infeld, the makers of Bobby's strings of choice: Thomastik-Infeld Vision Titanium!
Watch and listen to Bobby on TV (FOX 5 Atlanta) and radio (96Rock and WABE National Public Radio) this month as he promotes his new YANG IT! Live at Eddie's Attic CD!
September 2006
Bobby might not agree with the food critics over at Creative Loafing. (He's never been a fan of the yellowy canned mushrooms at the Loaf's 'Best Breakfast' pick the Silver Skillet.) But, he can't say much bad about the music fiends as they chose him as 2006's Best Instrumentalist admiring his ability to spew Led Zeppelin and Paganini while balancing a bar glass on his head (or something like that.) Three cheers for Creative Loafing for having good taste in music, but if you are looking for breakfast in Atlanta Bobby votes for Ria's Bluebird.
