Kate Callahan

Hello, I'm Kate or Katherine. I've played music since toddler-hood. I can remember intently riding around in circles on my tricycle and singing along to sacred operas. It felt natural to me. A joyous part of me connected to the cello in 3rd grade, after seeing a school orchestra concert. I clearly asked my parents and teacher if I could learn "that one!"Now I give concerts, play in churches, play on the radio, and sometimes sing in Sivasana at the end of the yoga classes that I teach. I have fallen in love with and learned to play the guitar, which gives me the ability to stand up and express what comes through when I'm feeling the imagination that makes up a gathering of people. I try and pace myself while bringing music into the world. The process becomes precious in me. There is an honoring of the space that surrounds a concert or an outpouring of songs in any setting. Express, Breathe, Integrate...I was interviewed on WNPR this summer. The airing has surprised me with lots of kindness from people here in Connecticut. So I keep exploring! I'm happy to be finding my heart grows bigger when I sit down to play the piano. I enjoy practicing on a Grand Piano or any version of a piano that allows me to look ahead over it's body into the space of a room.
