About Me


Hello! My name is David DeGroat. I am a freelance Guitarist living in Essen Germany. My main activities include teaching, live playing, studio, writing and Family. I am married and have two boys, Bela and Jasper. I moved to Germany in 1995, after completing my degree at the Hartt school of music at the University of Hartford in Hartford Connecticut to be with my wife Prisca. Since then I have freelanced in just about every possible genre that you can think of were a guitar might be needed. I have been part of the Jazz Workshop der Stadt Gladbeck for the past seven years, I toured with Eight to the bar on their European tour 2004, I have played various musicals, lots of clubs, and private parties, Carnival, and also German Schlager. Since 1998, I have a small recording studio which keeps me busy making demos, recording others and writing music. David DeGroat, from a musical family, (mother piano player, father trumpet player and music teacher) began playing guitar at the age of 10. From 1990 to 1992 private guitar lessons with Jamie Sherwood and music theory and ear training with Charlie Gigliotti. Between 1992 and 1995 David DeGroat studied at the "Hartt School of Music", majoring in Jazz Guitar, studying with Jackie Mclean, Randy Johnston, Rick Rosie, Steve Davis, Richard Provost. DeGroat graduated "Magna cum Laude", with a bachelors degree in jazz studies, emphasis on jazz guitar.
