Band Members: I am a free-think-er n. One who forms opinions about religion on the basis of reason, independently of tradition, authority, or established belief. Revelation and faith can't be validated and orthodoxy is no guarantee of truth. I subscribe to some of the aspects of Objectivism, a philosopy which celebrates the power of man's mind, defending reason and science against every form of irrationalism. It provides an intellectual foundation for objective standards of truth and value.Truth is the degree to which a statement corresponds with reality. Reality is limited to that which is directly perceivable through our natural senses or indirectly ascertained through the proper use of reason.Most modern social and moral progress has been made by people free from religion. Historically, all religions have consistently resisted progress--including the abolition of slavery; women's right to vote and their personal right of choice as individuals to use contraception and/or to terminate unwanted pregnancies. Medical developments such as the use of anesthesia; scientific understanding of the heliocentric solar system and evolution, and the American principle of state/church separation are just a few examples of progress by humanity that the church wanted to suppress.With that said, I reject any notion of the supernatural as incompatible with the objectivity and regularity of nature as identified by reason. There is no credible evidence of miracles, magic, or other supernatural phenomena in nature. Thus I stand a Black man who lives by the judgment of my own mind, willing to stand alone against tradition and popular belief. EZ now.
