ArchitectureThe CityThe greatest human creation! A system so complex that rivals that of Nature itself.
Urban Planning, the ultimate puzzle. Where you know you're going to fail at some point, you just don't know when or why.
I love it.Plus:
Cinema, art, comics, photography, anything visual really.
Some history, science, music.
Football!
Anyone who won't join the "People I wish I'd never met".
I like all kinds of music. I don't believe there's such a thing as a bad genre, only bad musicians.
I listen to all sorts from classical to hard-core. As a friend says: "If Wagner was alive today, he would be a metalhead."
Favorite bands change with time although Pink Floyd always seem to be in my shortlist. I have other albuns I listen often like Anathema-The Silent Enigma; Dire Straights-Brothers In Arms or Depeche Mode among others. At the moment I'm quite enjoying Tool.
Alfred Hitchcock! The true master! He cold manipulate every aspect of a film to produce exactly the effect he wanted. As an example, check out "Rear Window". Right at the introduction he tell everything we need to know about the main characters with just one camera sequence. Brilliant!I have been discovering asian cinema since I came to Sheffield. There's not really a market for them in Portugal. Some are already among my favorites.A few of my all time favorite movies. In no particular order:Vertigo
Rear Window
Gattaca
Dune
The Lord Of The Rings
Princess Mononoke
Oldboy
Fargo
Sex, Lies, and Videotape
City Of God
Ghost in the Shell
The Shawshank Redemption
Battle Royale
I actualy like it. I think if we can separate real information from all the bollocks it is a wonderful mean of comunication.
I watch mostly news, documentaries, sport, and some series.
I prefer comedy or good drama like CSI, 24, and such and some science ficcion like Babillon 5 but I don't usually follow them religiously.
Except "The West Wing".
And the best TV program of all times: Northern Exposure.
Top Ten of the most boring TV programs ever:
1 - Little House on The Prairy
2 - An Angel On Earth
How odd. The same actor on both.
3 - Sunday Mass
Please!! If they can't even bother to actually go there!
4 - Sky Sports Live - Fishing
Never really saw it. But it's got to be top 5
5 - UKTV Gardens
A whole fucking channel of it?!
6 - Figure Skating
This is just my thing. Sort of a childhood trauma. Nothing sexual though.
7 - Telesales
8 - Portuguese Soap-operas
9 - English Soap-operas
10 - American Soap-operas
I usually choose Science Fiction or some kind of historic novels. Although I like most types, I hate crappy, cheesy romance novels where the Knight/cowboy saves the danzel in distress and in the end and they are happy ever after with a fulfilling sexual life.
Some of my favorites:
For Whom The Bell Tolls - Ernest Hemingway.
The Name Of The Rose - Umberto Eco.
The Gospel According To Jesus Christ - Jose Saramago.
Rama Series - Arthur C. Clarke.
1984 - George Orwell.
Lord Of The Rings - Tolkien.
The Weight of Silence - Joao Norte
Dune - Frank Herbert
Battle Royale - Koushun Takami
My father and my grandfather. The best, most amazing people I will ever meet.
Eduardo Souto-Moura, Gaudi, Frank Gehry, Da Vinci, Alfred Hitchcock, Einstein, Carl Sagan, Dali, Arthur C. Clarke.
And Batman.
All men of great insight, vision and intelligence. Most of them a little nuts. Coincidence? I wonder.
