About Me
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma - which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of other's opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
- Steve Jobs

A hesitant cheer came from the crowd as he rubbed the tree bark for good luck and took the stage. The audience locked eyes on the clean-cut soloist, complimented by vintage jeans and simple kicks. When the Bay-area native cautiously approached the mic carrying his acoustic guitar, he knew their response would determine the next steps of his musical career. Well-known in Los Angeles and Oakland, California, this was J. Myers' turn to leave a lasting impression on the ears of listeners and minds of believers on a larger scale, and to make proud those who have dedicatedly supported his gift.
The opportunity to make his first television appearance at the legendary Apollo Theater in Harlem, NY, was only one accomplishment of many awarded to J. Myers, since his musical journey has begun. As a lyricist who accompanies his sound with an acoustic guitar, there is no question why artists including Ne-Yo, Marques Houston and T. Payne have made room for him as the opening performer for their LA shows. Not only a performer, J. Myers writes all of his music, from his feel-good anthem, "Smile," to his vulnerably expressive ballad, “Give You My Soul." It was the latter that prompted manager, Blue Williams (Outkast and Nas) to snag him as the opener for Nas' European "Hip Hop is Dead Tour" in Spring 2007.
J. Myers credits artists such as Tony Toni Tone and the Isley Brothers as inspiration, but fondly identifies the people of the Bay Area as having the most impact on the creation of his sound. "There's no place like home. It means a lot to have my music appreciated by the very people who influenced my sound," said J. Myers, as he reflected on the place that gave him his start. After only a few performances at open-mic venues, he started touring underground, across the country, to refine his skill. His musical development fostered even while attending college in the Atlanta University Center, where he claims to be his second home.
As many industry insiders predicted, J. Myers' experience in producing, songwriting and instrumentation has come full circle and is taking Hip Hop to a level it's never experienced before. With true-to-life lyrics and impassioned guitar riffs to penetrate the soul, he comes bearing the gift of music, in a brand new package. Soulfully realistic and raw are attributes that qualify J. Myers' artistry, but do not quantify his hustle. He realizes, "It's been a long time coming, but the journey has just begun."
