somewhere along the path I lost my way, but that "wrong" turn led me to myself, brought me to today.

About Me

"When you come to the end of all the light you know, and it's time to step into the darkness of the unknown, faith is knowing that one of two things shall happen: Either you will be given something solid to stand on or you will be taught to fly." -Edward Teller

I think I may have found my wings!!!
"A great deal of talent is lost to the world for want of a little courage. Every day sends to their graves obscure men whose timidity prevented them from making a first effort." -Sydney Smith
Lack of courage...oddly something I'm well familiar with...but something I'm learning to overcome.
I work in an office for a living and am active in the martial arts (teaching and studying). I love martial arts, photography, music, and poetry. Did I mention I love music?! I'm slowly (very slowly, but making a bit of progress I hope) learning to play the djembe. I love it! I'm also working on relearning (after a very long break) what little I used to know about playing piano. Of course, I'm still very much a beginner...can't say I could ever really play. Also trying to find time to work on my poetry again. Rather, I'm waiting and wondering when inspiration will hit...it's the only way I write. Or should I say that it writes itself and I'm only the messenger, because when I think too much or try too hard, everything shuts down. Story of my life - over analyzing everything. I just have work on (or is that not work) on surrendering to the flow and let the words and music come as they may, without judgement. Surrendering, allowing, be-ing! That's my current life lesson to be learned and applied!
I'm an artist, dancer, musician in my heart and soul, looking for an outlet (Ok, so I can't yet sing, dance, or play, and my sense of rhythm is sometimes questionable, but a girl's gotta start somewhere)...looking to learn technique, to learn to express myself. Only then will I truly be able to set my inner artist free, to live in the moment and just create. I have to learn to be ME in order to become what I was meant to be and to grow. Only then can I truly be the change I wish to see in the world.
Some of my current favorite quotes - very relevant to me at present:
"Even though you may want to move forward in your life, you may have one foot on the brakes. In order to be free, we must learn how to let go. Release the hurt. Release the fear. Refuse to entertain your old pain. The energy it takes to hang onto the past is holding you back from a new life. What is it you would let go of today?" -Mary Manin Morrissey
"When you follow your bliss... doors will open where you would not have thought there would be doors, and where there wouldn't be a door for anyone else." -Joseph Campbell
"We must be willing to get rid of the life we've planned, so as to have the life that is waiting for us." -Joseph Campbell
The following are some wonderful, and I believe very true, quotes from Richard Bach:
Every person, all the events of your life, are there because you have drawn them there. What you choose to do with them is up to you.
Learning is finding out what you already know. Doing is demonstrating that you know it. Teaching is reminding others that they know it just as well as you do. You are all learners, doers, teachers.
In order to live free and happily, you must first sacrifice boredom. It is not always an easy sacrifice.
Argue for your limitations, and sure enough, they're yours.
There is a family of us who have this yearning for a kind of excellence that we can manifest every day of our lives, a family who wants to believe we're not pawns, we're not victims on this planet, that knows we have the power within us here and now to change the world we see around us!
