Hailing from the Northern Virginia region, LikaJoon AKA Persian Princess has never been scared to take risks and is always ready to make moves to take the urban music scene to the next level.
Amid the scores of hip-hop starlets, LikaJoon whose name Lika is short for Elika and Joon which means sweetheart or baby in her native language, Farsi, is bound to be a bonafide standout. With her ability to become an emerging star who disarms her fans with lyrical dexterity, girl-power anthems, and unapologetic sexuality. The twenty-something rapper and songwriter is a triple threat offering self written real lyrics, a commanding delivery, and an exotic beauty that seduces and entertains.
Born in Tehran, Iran and moved to Northern Virginia at the age of 6 months, she has been making a name for herself in the DMV (Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia area). She admits her career choice of rockin’ mics for a living is much easier than it would have been had she never come to America.
“In my country, there are not a lot of opportunities for women, especially in the entertainment industry,†Grateful her family brought her to America. “Hard to get acceptance from my people with the type of music I am pursuing. But my love for the music supersedes all double standards and bullshit, to care too much what other people think.â€
LikaJoon’s been rapping since high school. Influenced by the East Coast rap scene, but states her desire to rock the mic for a living came from Tupac, Biggie, Big Pun, Bone Thugs N Harmony, Lil Kim, Foxy Brown, and Missy Elliot to name a few. Developing her craft, LikaJoon got her start freestyling and battling then went on to recording songs and building a buzz. Offers started coming in but she decided to take her time to perfect her craft, and hold out for just the right deal. After bad dealings with a former producer she took a year off.
She became known by many as a party girl for her "work hard and party harder†mentality. She dabbled a little in promotions with her team of models consisting of her cousins who are often referred to as The Royal Queens.
LikaJoon never stopped writing and eventually chose to follow her dreams. She got back on her grind and gave music one more shot. She looked up a former group member, R&B singer/songwriter K-Mac.
Elika destined to fulfill her music aspirations convinced K-Mac to get back in the studio and help her with her promotional EP. She decided to come out as an independent artist and build up an undeniable buzz on her own instead of doing the please-listen-to-my-demo thing.
Now LikaJoon has released her promotional EP and is currently working on her album, featuring on mixtapes, and performing to create a massive buzz. The first single, ‘Throw That,’ the title track is a straight down south banga with a east-coast feel from the ladies standpoint.
In closing Elika offers, “There’s nothing like me in the da game right now. You have never seen a middle eastern female rapper who can write and recite.†With hip-hop becoming more and more international, her signature sound, undeniable swagger, looks, and skillful delivery are bound to cross genres as well as borders.
