In recent years Virginia has undoubtedly become a moving force in the state of hip-hop and music world as a whole, fathering such musical geniuses as The Neptune’s and Timbaland and introducing the world to bonafide superstars in the Clipse, Missy Elliot, Skillz, Tre Songz, and Chris Brown it’s safe to say that Virginia is here to stay. And while these artists are all different and unique, the one common component that links them all is the region of Virginia from which they hail.
Out of the untapped Northern part of the state better known as NOVA emerges Jay Holla one of the best up and coming hip hop artist in the state of Virginia. Jason Howard better known as Jay Holla first got into rap in 2003 as a way to creatively express his GOD given talent to entertain others. In the beginning rap wasn’t that serious to him, but with the help and push from family and friend’s he started to realize how good he could become.
Holla’s unique voice coupled with his reality driven lyrics are sure to propel him to the top of the rap game and separate him from the competition. When asked what makes him different from his counterparts in Virginia Holla stated “Virginia is a mixing pot for music, everybody has there own sound and my sound is just one component Of that pot, I love being from Virginia and respect all that came before me, my music is different because it’s true to me and the Virginia I know.”
Not only does Jay Holla rap, he has helped write R&B tracks for other up and coming artist that will be sure to shock you. Jay Holla has performed at local venues in Virginia such as The Tiger Café and KC’s Restaurant and Lounge, Terra & Mare, and Buffalo Wing House in Herndon, Va.
When asked about his gift Holla simply stated, “Man I just love music, and if you love music then you have to love me”. While many today believe “hip-hop is dead” Holla is just the person to breathe life back in it. Look out world, Holla is here and remember he just started rapping in 2003.
