About Me
Coming from a musical family, Jasper van Hulten (1981) appears to possess some musical ears at a very early age. After being introduced to several musical instruments, the drums naturally attract him. After his dad gave him his first wash-box-drumkit, his life would be all about music, and he starts taking drumlessons at the age of seven. After graduating from highschool he is immediately admitted to the jazz department of the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he graduates in 2002 as a bachelor in music. During his education he already plays frequently with various bands, so he decides to concentrate on that.
A lot has happened, since then. Jasper has gained a lot of experience as an all-round musician with numerous (big)bands, in bars, clubs, theatres, studio's, concerthalls, on radio/tv-shows and jazzfestivals, throughout Holland, Europe, Indonesia, Japan and South Africa.
In 2000, he won the Pim Jacobs jazzprijs with vocalist Jessica Sligter.
In 2002, he won the Erasmus jazzprijs, the Dordtse jazzprijs and the Breda jazzaward, with modern-jazzgroup 'Switchback'.
After having played with 'The Young Sinatra's' for over five years, Jasper now concentrates on bands with Eric Vloeimans (Gatecrash, album 'Gatecrashin'' Edison-winner 2007), Sensual (Brazilian jazz & groove), Wouter Hamel (vocal jazz-pop) and Tutu Puoane (young, gifted South-African singer).
Besides that, he has shared the stage with Bert van den Brink, Harmen Fraanje, Michiel Borstlap, Jeroen van Vliet, Hein van de Geyn, Stefan Lievestro, Gulli Gudmundsson, Peter Tiehuis, Theo de Jong, Wim Bronnenberg, Anton Goudsmit, Ad Colen, Jesse van Ruller, Angelo Verploegen, Dick de Graaf, Milan Bonger, Mete Erker, Gino Vannelli, Denise Jannah, Edsilia Rombley, Deborah Carter, Lydia van Dam, Steve Swallow, Carla Bley, amongst many others...
