About Me

Create yours at BlingyBlob.com!

I often participate in Day of the Dead events.I'm also a writer, performance artist, cultural worker and community activist. I write about identity and place with politics mixed in. One of my pieces was web published here: http://clubs.ulv.edu/~pmag/v2i3ol.htmlI've recently been accepted into the MFA Program in Creative Non-Fiction Writing at Antioch. I'm very excited and look forward to adding this to my already full plate of responsibilities - except, this will be my dessert.
This is For You
..

You are The Empress

Beauty, happiness, pleasure, success, luxury, dissipation.

The Empress is associated with Venus, the feminine planet, so it represents, beauty, charm, pleasure, luxury, and delight. You may be good at home decorating, art or anything to do with making things beautiful.

The Empress is a creator, be it creation of life, of romance, of art or business. While the Magician is the primal spark, the idea made real, and the High Priestess is the one who gives the idea a form, the Empress is the womb where it gestates and grows till it is ready to be born. This is why her symbol is Venus, goddess of beautiful things as well as love. Even so, the Empress is more Demeter, goddess of abundance, then sensual Venus. She is the giver of Earthly gifts, yet at the same time, she can, in anger withhold, as Demeter did when her daughter, Persephone, was kidnapped. In fury and grief, she kept the Earth barren till her child was returned to her.

My Interests

I edited my profile with Thomas Myspace Editor V4.4 (www.strikefile.com/myspace)
Finding a resolution to the Juarez murders. 500 young women have been BOUND, TORTURED, MUTILATED, RAPED then MURDERED and no one on either side of the border is doing anything to stop those responsible. Femicide and abuse of women MUST be stopped.
Art, politics, reading, writing, being a good mom, daughter, sister, partner and friend.
I'm very protective of those that I love and would defend them in any way if they were in trouble. Yet, I'm keenly aware that ultimately I can't control other people's actions.

I'd like to meet:

I'd like to meet Bono, James McBride and Michael Ondaatje and other amazingly talented artists who write inspiring and poetic work. Michael especially makes me want to be a better writer.

Music:

Green Day, U2, The Killers, The Game, My Chemical Romance, The Ramones, Queen, B-52's, Most 80's music, some current and classical too. I also love Mariachi music and waltzes - especially the Blue Danube waltz, because these types of music remind me of my father. I used to play violin for him when I was a child (got pretty good at it too) just to make him happy.

Movies:

My Favorite Movie is "Far From Heaven" written and directed by Todd Haynes. It's a very good, thought-provoking look at racism and intolerance in a way that makes your heart break. The best scene is in the gallery when Raymond Deagan (Dennis Haysbert) is explaining to Cathy Whitaker (Julianne Moore) the beauty of the abstract they are viewing. He clearly understands and appreciates the more sophistacated aesthetic of the painting and is the only one there who seems to even care. Because she's attracted to him, she's willing and open to appreciate this different style. This is a perfect manisfestation of at least the indifference people of color live with in today's society and the difficulty the dominant society has in accepting differences, unless they take the time to learn about and appreciate this difference through the eyes of those that understand.
I used to love "Thelma and Louise" too but didn't like the ending. It clearly sent the wrong message to women struggling with circumstances and I feel I'm much more empowered than the end tells me to be.

Television:

Anything that shows diversity and is well written.

Many of the people working on these shows work long hours with no compensation, no benefits and very little recourse. Where 7 - 9 % of writers working in traditional programming for television are minorities, that percentage jumps to 35 - 40% of those working in reality.
My question: Why is it okay to fairly compensate those few working in traditional programming, but not those working in reality when the networks make far more in reality (no pun intended).

Books:

The English Patient written by Michael Ondaajte, The Color of Water written by James McBride, Dictee written by Theresa Hak Kyung Cha and The Mixquiahuala Letters by Ana Castillo.

Heroes:

First My Mother, My Father, and my Brother Ben and now my sons Alain and Gian.
My sons are my hope, inspiration and the soul of my life. We've gone through very wonderful and very difficult times in the last six years. We've been there for and held each other up as well as celebrated our achievements. They are truly my joy.
