About Me

UPDATE!!!: Yes it's true! The piece below about my wife and I not having any children is no longer applicable! Dec. 9 2007, our son Samuel Felix was born :)) Of course I would like to make a better update to this page as soon as I can, but as you might imagine, I'm not exactly getting online all that much these days. Anyway, we're thrilled to be parents, and though it's surely a challenge, we are taking it day by day, and having fun doing so! Thanks to all who have sent well wishes! :) Talk to you soon! -Paul

p.s. for you fellow animal lovers out there, don't worry, Romeo and Gargamel are taking the new addition well, and are still getting much love from us ;)
Hello, thanks for stopping by my "space." Stay a while, leave a comment or message me if you like :)
I am the vocalist of the Prog Metal band from The Netherlands, SUN CAGED, and very happy to be so. On March 23, 2007 we released the band's second full length album, Artemisia. So far the reviews coming have been very rewarding. Please check out (and add, hopefully) the Sun Caged page for more info and current events regarding the band.

The music you should be hearing now is from our recently released album "Artemisia". This is one of my favorite tracks from the album.

If you choose to continue reading, you'll find the original mini auto-bio I posted when I first started this page. If you choose not to continue reading the bio, turn to page 17.

I was born on Long Island New York, grew up in Wisconsin from 1982 - 2001, moved to San Diego in August 2001 to seek fortune & fame...but willing to settle for just sunshine. In March 2005, left sunny San D. & moved to Europe to join Sun Caged as their new singer. (still willing to settle for fortune and fame though ;)

I am the third son of a Mexican immigrant and a Swedish descended, American farm girl, they met in New York City, as immigrants and farm girls are wont to do. Not really sure why my Dad ended up there, but my Mom was pursuing opera (as farm girls are wont to do.) My father still lives in Wisconsin. My mother, sadly, passed away March 28, 2004.

Of my two older brothers, one is a detective in Milwaukee, WI, the other lives in Germany and is a School teacher. (and in allowing me to crash his pad, is the reason I was able to come over to the old world and pursue my musical adventure)

On August 9, 2003 I married my darling Sara. We have no children as of yet, so until such time, the recipients of our parental love are cats Romeo and Gargamel.

I have a bachelor's degree in History from the University of Wisconsin - Madison, but my true passion is music. As this website becomes more fleshed out, all the nuances of my musical obsession shall (hopefully) be illucidated.

I am, despite what it says on my profile (or on any number of official documents), 23 years old. ;)

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

When I say "meet" what I have in mind is more like, relaxing and having uninterupted conversation with... and not just in the cattle-herding "meet'n'greet" fashion.

I'd really like to meet: Stevie Wonder, Sting, Tommy Shaw (who I have met all too briefly in the above mentioned circumstance) Paul Rodgers, Jack Black, Daniel Gildenlow, Kevin Gilbert (R.I.P.) and far too many others to think of here.

Music:

I will probably have to change & add to this a million times before I'm satisfied, but here's a start on musicians that are really important to me as influences, inspirations or just people I really enjoy listening to:

Tommy Shaw (Styx/Damn Yankees, Shaw-Blades), Spock's Beard, Mike Keneally, Kansas, Paul Rodgers, Daniel Gildenlow (Pain of Salvation), Tony Harnell (TNT, Westworld, Starbreaker, Morning Wood), Russell Allen (Symphony X), Sting, Stevie Wonder, Kevin Gilbert, Jeff Buckley, Nick D'Virgilio, Neal Morse, King's X, Porcupine Tree .

...and so on and so forth...

I also really enjoy a lot of jazz and jazz-fusion including:

Nicholas Payton, Charile Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, Arturo Sandoval, Chucho Valdes, Herbie Hancock, Chick Corea, Al DiMeola, Allan Holdsworth, Return to Forever, Chase, Irakere...and many more

In San Diego I was in two bands, both of which have recordings that should still see the light of day at sometime in the future:

Wooden Badger (http://www.wooden-badger.com)

The Order (http://www.theorderband.com)

Currently my main focus is Sun Caged! Our new album is in pre-production right now!!!

I also appear on Marcel Coenen's new solo cd "Colour Journey" which will be released by Lion Music on Jan. 27, 2006 (see his myspace music page for more info...you can link to it from right over there in my "friends space" ;)

Movies:

The Big Lebowski, Coen Brothers, Sideways, Alexander Payne, Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind, Amelie, Jean-Pierre Jeunet, Brazil, Terry Gilliam, Star Wars, Wes Anderson, Will Ferrell, School of Rock, This is Spinal Tap, Waiting for Guffman, Best in Show, A Mighty Wind, Christopher Guest

Television:

The Office (the BBC series NOT the American remake!!!), Arrested Development, Smallville, The Sopranos, "CHiP's", Thundercats

Contemplating the VT shootings

I don't really even want to think about the shootings. It just seems too surreal, and thinking about it will just confirm its reality, when I'd rather let it stay in the realm of surreality. But I g...
