About Me

------------------------------------------------------------ -------------------------------------- I was born in Rio de janeiro on july 19, 1963. My first instrument was the acoustic guitar, which I’m still playing eventually. I started drumming at the age of 15 playing in several rock bands, and when I was 20 Robertinho de Recife (guitar player and producer) invited me to join his new heavy rock group. Through Robertinho I arrived at Raimundo Fagner’s (brazilian popular singer) band, with whom I played for many years of my career. In the middle of the 90’s I started to work in recordings and concerts with a lot of brazilian popular artists like Ana Carolina, Elba Ramalho, Frejat, Zé Ramalho, Geraldo Azevedo, Ivete Sangalo, Tim Maia, Ritchie, Cássia Eller, Sandra de Sá, Nando Reis, Erasmo Carlos, Luiz Melodia, Nana Caymmi, among others. Between 1997 and 2000 I played for TV Globo and did some televison shows like Som Brasil and Brasil 500 anos. In the instrumental field, I had the honor to play with Nico Assunpção, Chico Batera, Mauro Senise, Ricardo Silveira, Luis Avelar and others masters. I begin to play with the brazilian jazz funk master and a friend of mine, Ed Motta at 1996 and since then I’m a fixed member of his band. Besides Ed Motta’s music I’ve been playing also with bossa nova great, Marcos Valle and with Lisa Nilsson, a great singer from Sweeden, both since 2005. In april 2007 I had the honor to play with master arranger, pianist and composer Eumir Deodato on his brazilian tour. Two concerts were recorded resulting on a dvd and cd set, which are already available. Parallel with my side-man career, I have a book-cd (play-along) for drumming instruction, released in 2000 by Lumiar publishing. This material is entitled “Toque Junto”, with the collaboration by two of my greatest friends: the bass player André Rodrigues and the guitar player João Castilho. Castilho is also a partner in our instrumental group, Foco (plus Marcelo Martins on tenor saxophone). Foco does an acoustic, jazzy sound, with a lot of brazilian vibe on his compositions and interpretations, and we are playing together for 8 years with two records available. I’ve been playing also in a band called Paraphernalia, an instrumental funky octet sounding electric and “vintage” which is leaded by my friends Alberto Continentino (bass) and Bernardo Bosisio (guitar). Thank you for your attention. Cheers!
