the Stalking Distance, is a 4 piece hard rock band out of Sacramento Ca.
The band consists of Jose Montenegro - Guitar / Vocal; Daryl Ashley - Bass; Mark Payne - Guitar; Eli Calnon - Drums.Three of the members, Jose,Daryl & Eli had previously played together in another local band, Victorian. After having lost their guitarist, the three had decided to change the direction of the music to a more aggressive, yet upbeat style of music. The three continued as a three piece with Jose writing most of the music and lyrics, while auditioning guitarists. Until one day the right man for the right job came to the spotlight, Mark Payne.
"The moment he walked into the room with a Marshall half stack and Gibson Flying V, we knew we had our guy. It was like Randy Rhoads walked into the room. He just started shredding." - Jose.
The music has been described as a cross between early thrash metal / punk / rock type of sound. No doubt due to the wide variety of influences in the band that range anywhere from (early) Metallica to NOFX to (early) Motley Crue and Snot.
With a new musical direction, came a new name for the band." the Stalking Distance" The name was conceived by Jose and close friend, Rachael Lavine on a Sunday afternoon while endulging in drink, food, and trading stories of "relationships" (an inside joke) & life. The name stuck. It seemed to have a personal yet broad appeal to it. Thus, the Stalking Distance was born.
The band is constantly working, thanks to their booking, 344 Productions. The band will be hitting regional venues to draw local support and fanbase. This is only the begining for this four piece.
