About Me

Get Your Own! | View SlideshowZONE-MAN is well known and well respected by the reggae/dancehall community across several continents. Prior to performing at large venues overseas, Zone made his bones working the hardscrabble sound clash circuit in and around new york city during the tumultuous 1980's. At a time when New York was awash with powerful reggae sound systems that took pride in challenging the top sounds from London/Toronto/Jamaica/ D.C. and other cities across the world.Competition was fierce and the microphone sharks were circling, but Zone-Man held his own against the biggest and the best. Many of the big, better known reggae recording artist of the time would be completely throwed off track when they came to perform in NYC expecting to run the scene and mash down the local talent, only to be outshined by the ornery upstart Zoneman. Zone was the underage hired gun whom the biggest selectors would seek out when a major battle was brewing. Another young DJ of island descent recounts the environment "back then it was dog eat dog, if hip hop artist were being robbed by the major labels then reggae artist were being robbed and raped. It was all about your live performance, your aility to hold the microphone, move the crowd, attack your rival and defend your sound! That is how you ate, that is how you earned your respect." Back then Zone was too young to legally enter many of the venues at which he would perform. For foreign or out town sounds it was a straight up ambush, and for local sounds in the know it was intense anxiety and great suspense as the crowd waited to hear which sound the wonder DJ would represent on any given night. Another NYC DJ gives his take. "Well the rest of the world was just beginning to experience these young upstart youths from new york who were coming of age in in an environment that was predominantly influenced by the Caribbean and reggae vibrations. Certain sections of the Bronx and Brooklyn were strictly dancehall. That is the music, the culture , the garments, the style. All the big international DJ's and vocalist would try to make their way to BK, their home away from home. Here they would feel comfortable and would find legitimate sounds playing at corked dances seven nights a week." Zoneman was known to tear down Biltmore ballroom, reggae lounge, galaxy and many venues across the globe. Although the list of sounds for which Zone logged time is too long to detail, he setttled in as a regular with Minimart sound and the 90's crew. Later Zone would cut dub plates for a multitude of sets and he also signed to a major label, only to experience the typical pitfalls of a music industry in transition. Today Zoneman has developed a unique musical approach and style. "RAGGA CRUNK" transcends many categories and genres. This music is get up and move music, hit the floor and do what you do music. As one female fan puts it."When Zone de bout when him hold the mic it is party time, that is when dance start! He is Mr. Excitement and full of energetic vibes, nuff respect to Zone man, he gives you a good time each and every time."Zoneman on iSOUND.COMRADIO STATIONS New 97.5 (N.Y.) 718-766-7490 HOT 97.1 (N.Y.) 800-223-9797 POWER 105. 1 (N.Y.) 800-585-1051 POWER 103.5 (UPSTATE N.Y.) 866-547-7961 HOT 107.9 (ATL) 404-741-1079 99 JAMZ (FLA) 866-991-JAMZ 96.1 (NC) 704-338-9600 106.5 (VA) 804-474-0000 92.1 JAMZ (VA) 804-672-9299 92.3 (BALT) 410-332-8200 93.9 (D.C.) 202-432-WKYS 107.5 (CHI) 312-591-1075 106.3 (L.A.) 818-845-1059
