About Me

My name is Glenroy Hylton aka Curry Don,(De doc). I was born in Jamaica(W.I). I grew up in Portland, JA. At a very young age I became interested in acting, djing, and singing. I won my first Dj competition at the age of twelve. Then I migrated to the United States, Brooklyn New York to be exact. It was there that I attended Prospect Heights H.S. While attending school I met and eventually became good friends with some up and coming dj’s and singers like: James Bond, Night Rider, Schreechy Dan, Trevor Sparks, Shaggy, Rayvon, Donna V, Sluggy Ranks, and many other artists. By the early 80’s we all were frequently performing alongside artists such as: Shabba Ranks, Papa San, Josey Wales, Charlie Chaplin, Sister Carol, Scion Success, Frankie Paul, and many others, at the then famous Biltmore Ballroom, The Starlite Ballroom and many other venues By the mid 80’s We were N.Y’s top Dj’s/Singers ( in my opinion). We were in high demand all over the U.S and Bermuda. Then in 1986 I became a part of The Mini-Mart Sound System. Mini Mart was a sound system from the East New York section of Brooklyn, known as the 90’s (I need not say more). It was there I met Sleepy wonder and Bobo General. Sleepy, Bobo, and I went on to set a pace in the dancehall world. We began to attract many fans and Mini Mart along with us became famous. In 1987 Roman Stewart took me to meet producer Delroy Francis, of the Park Heights Records. I then recorded my two first singles: “Big up every don” and “Must a fe come”. Then I recorded “Shot ha fe lick” (We lick shot) for K.C Jockey, on the Star Tone Label. “Shot ha fe lick” caused controversy in the dancehall as well as on the streets; every sound system wanted me to do a dubplate for the song. I then went on to record for a few other producers until I decided to take a break from the limelight 1992. Even though I stepped out of the spotlight to focus on other aspects of my life, I never stopped writing songs and dj’ing. After an eight year hiatus I decided to get back into the business in June of 2000. Upon my return I decided that I should pursue being a producer as well as an artist. I then decided to produce a compilation album/CD. I immediately began voicing (recording) various local and international artists, but after 3 years I had to put the project on hold because of financial problems. In December of 2004 I went to E2 recordings INC. there I met Mr. Ed Robinson. He and I later sat down and talked about my intentions, I explained that I wanted to put together a compilation album/CD and within 20 months the project was completed. The result was a 14 track compilation album Called “Perseverance”. I decided to name the album “Perseverance” because I went through a lot of the obstacles during 2000-2006 and never gave up. Even though I had initially intended on producing the album, I decided to put a track on the album, because it would not be fair to my fans or myself, for me to exclude myself. The song is track nine on the album, “No Victim”. This CD has a little bit of everything, roots and culture, dancehall, consciousness, upliftment and inspiration. Hope you love it; please support a good cause! Thanks for your support ……One Love
