Featuring lush, brimming guitar textures, ethnic-tinged drums and abstract, spiritual lyrics, Rush Holler is melodic, melancholic and versatile. Though specializing in a unique brand of "psychedelic gothic jazz,†Rush Holler runs a dark gamut of styles that finds equal ground in nearly every style of music. Containing various ethnic and world elements, the Rush Holler material is dark, mystical and inspiring.
The sole member, the Reverend William Michael Stillwaters spent the first eight years of his life in a country hollow - “Rush Holler†– and his personal style reflects some of that Southern charm. He moved to Columbus, Ohio when he was fourteen and shortly thereafter began teaching himself how to play the guitar with an unlikely combination of Neil Young and Type O Negative songs. A published author and ordained minister, he describes himself as eccentric, eclectic and easy-going.
Stillwaters is a highly potent and prolific composer with a reputation for being easy to work with. His meaningful, image-driven songs range from folk styles to metal and he takes an “I’ll try anything†approach to music.
Already a big hit with such diverse groups as college students, biker gangs and hip-hop icons such as Bizzy Bone and his entourage, Rush Holler offers an almost universal appeal. His first self-released home recording sold over 500 copies, despite having no marketing or airplay whatsoever.
Rush Holler’s brooding allure is as wide and varied as the sound and is appreciated by fans of almost every genre.
