About Me

MyGen Profile Generator
This page is dedicated to the memory of Lance Loud. The Lance blogs have now been archived, so if that's what you came here for, you'll have to go to my blog page and ferret around in the archives.
Former journalist and music writer, now kicking back and enjoying just being a fan. (It's not what it's cracked up to be, kiddies.) Sporadic violist. Execrable guitarist. Incurable optimist. Slob.
I've never been able to resolve the dichotomy of loving music and loving horses. It's a lifelong struggle. One requires you to stay out until 4:00 a.m., the other requires you to get up at 4:00 a.m. That can't work, unless you're a college student on speed - which believe me I was! It also leads to a very schizophrenic lifestyle with two completely different sets of friends, neither of whom have anything whatsoever in common with each other.
I wish I were better integrated. But at 48 I realize that is NOT going to happen.
GUERNICA RECOMMENDS:

My Interests

I'd like to meet:

My brother.

Movies:

I never go to movies. I barely ever rent movies. I don't know why this medium holds no interest for me, and I feel significantly out of step with the rest of the world, but with very rare exceptions I just can't get into the film thang. There's just something about darkened theaters that gives me the creeps. There's also something about the time-wastage factor that I find unnerving. At my age, you need all the time you can get. Sorry.

Heroes:

Rock journos: The late, great Hunter S. Thompson, Lester Bangs, and darling Lance Loud. Charles Shaar Murray. Stuart Maconie. Legs McNeil.
Horsey peeps: Helen Crabtree. Bill Schoeman. George Morris. Denny Emerson. Alan Balch. Brooke Jacobs. And the late, great Denny O'Keefe.
Musicians and fellow travelers: Willie "Loco" Alexander. John Cale. John Lydon. Nicky Wire. Nick Lowe. Bob Mould. Don Dixon.
Record producers: Jimmy Iovine. Jimmy Miller. Bob Rock. Sir George Martin. Chris Thomas. Tony Visconti. Ed Buller. Genya Ravan. His Holiness Andrew Loog Oldham. Steven Wilson. Graham Sutton. And TUOP, whoever they may be!
