Spier(‘spir) born in Tokyo, Japan, has been a purveyor of music all his life. Leaving Japan, Spier migrated to San Francisco to seek his musical aspirations. He then moved to New York City, and ended up in Detroit, the city where he values the musical influence the city has left with him. Having several titles including deejay/turntablist, musician and producer, he has turned his love into raw talent. As a deejay, he has knowledge of various backgrounds of music(including but not limited to Hip-Hop, R&B, Rare Grooves, Funk, Jazz, Disco and Break Beats), attributing it to his sets. He has released several mixtapes including the classics “ Sly-Undercover Technicians,†“I’ll Vibe†and the “ Chicken and Vegetable †series featuring guest appearances from PMD of EPMD, Graph(CZAR Entertainment), L.I.F.E.-Long and Oktober.
Spier’s talents as producer has led to collaborations with Percee-P(Stones Throw), Subconscious(Low Tech Records), Yah Supreme(Sondoo), Big T.W.I.N.S of Infamous Mobb(Monopolee), Loer Velocity(Embedded/Caroline), L.I.F.E-Long, Ace Lover and Oktober resulting in released/distributed group of 12â€singles worldwide early in his production career. His most noteworthy project as considered by hip-hop fans around the world was his first official LP 2For5’s Broke Minds Think Alike(Cajo Communications/Fatbeats)(2004); a collaboration of Spier, Oktober and Ace Lover. The album did very well, being exclusively introduced in Spier’s native Japan and then released worldwide, and was even dubbed as Elemental Magazine’s “ Best Independent Hip-Hop Album †released for 2004. Sine then, Spier has released a double LP, the procedure/Ya Gyrls Favorite EP(Cajo Communications)(2005). Featuring Ace Lover and various artists from all over the country.
Spier is not limited to the United States, however. He frequents Japan, having worked with MSC Crew’s PRIMAL’s debut album, Nemuru Otoko(Libra Record). That project features other producers such as Dev Large, Maki The Magic, Illicit Tsuboi, I-Dea, and T-TANAKA. Spier also produced tracks for emcee Kemui’s debut Blue Screen(P-Vine Recoreds) which features artists such as KAN, Rumi, and production by T.TANAKA. As far as current collaborations in Japan, Spier is working with other members of MSC Crew, and is also working on producer collaboration project with Japanese producer T.TANAKA, as well as his solo project featuring an eclectic group of artists (TBA).
