About Me

Hydrovibe's "Killer Inside - Messed Up World remix" music video featuring Shawnee Smith
Born in Louisiana, Hydrovibe began when vocalist Heather St. Marie joined forces with guitarist/vocalist Mat Dauzat to create a sound that combined dynamic, guitar-driven music with extremely powerful and commanding female vocals and rich vocal harmonies. Quickly experiencing great success in the south, the band wanted to branch out and it became clear that Hydrovibe would ultimately need to move to Los Angeles. Half of the band was simply unable to make such a life-changing move across the country, leaving St. Marie and Dauzat the tough challenge of relocating and reforming Hydrovibe in the City of Angels. With some music gear, very few possessions, and a whole lot of determination, the duo made the trek across the country and set up shop in North Hollywood. The very week of arrival in L.A., Mat was hand-picked by Sharon and Kelly Osbourne to play lead guitar in Kelly's band and was immediately launched on tour. With many high-profile TV performances in the U.S and Europe, and touring all over the world with Kelly, Mat began making more industry contacts and expanding the Hydrovibe fan base worldwide.
Meanwhile back in L.A., Heather began scouring the scene for musicians to complete the band lineup. She and Dauzat continued to work on songwriting back and forth via the internet. Heavily influenced by the excitement and struggles of the recent major life changes and impacts on relationships (both good and bad), the new Hydrovibe songs grew extremely rich in melody and lyrical content while maintaining the heavy sound that the band had become known for. Dauzat and St. Marie began recording pre-production demos and releasing them on MySpace in early 2004, and the songs quickly gained strong fan reaction and industry attention. In spring of 2004, Hydrovibe joined forces with Atlantic Records to record 4 songs at Ocean Way Studios in Hollywood, California.
Armed with the newly recorded 4 songs, St. Marie and Dauzat underwent a long, extensive search to find the perfect members to complete Hydrovibe. Through industry friends they found drummer Philippe Mathys, a Swiss native who was playing in U.P.O. (Sony/Epic/Nitrus Records). The band finalized its lineup in March of 2006 when they found bass player Eliot Lorango through good friend and top L.A. musician-referral service owner, Barry Squire. Meanwhile, Atlantic Records had undergone "restructuring," and Hydrovibe decided that the time they were spending dealing with the major labels could be much better spent on trying to reach their fans on their own. They formed their own label, Orleans Street Records (a tribute to the original Louisiana stomping grounds) and locked themselves in a North Hollywood rehearsal room for 3 months to begin pre-production work on what was to be their independent debut album. After the pre-production work, the band entered the studio in June 2006 to begin tracking. During the sessions, the band got word from Lion's Gate that their song "Killer Inside" - which includes guest vocals by actress/singer Shawnee Smith (Amanda from Saw films) - was going to be featured in the movie Saw III and on the Saw III Soundtrack. To capitalize on that exposure, Hydrovibe quickly shifted gears and put out a 5-song EP aptly titled "Killer Inside" December 22, 2006. The band's first actual live show together with this new permanent lineup was at Rain Nightclub in the Palms Casino in Las Vegas with Static X for the big SAW III Premier party.
Starting January 9th, 2007, Hydrovibe was featured on METAL EDGE Magazine's "Corporate Punishment Tour" with Amity Lane (formerly Trust Company). With the overwhelming success and response from that tour, Hydrovibe decided to continue touring the US throughout the Spring and Summer of 2007. They were also featured on the "Operation Rock Tour" (dedicated to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces), which continued through Fall of '07. While on that tour, Lion's Gate flew Hydrovibe back to Los Angeles to shoot a music video with director Stephen Borasch for their song "Killer Inside - Messed Up World remix" featuring actress Shawnee Smith. The video is featured on the SAW III Director's Cut DVD and the SAW Trilogy Boxed Set, which hit stores in late October of '07.
Through 9 months of solid touring in 2007, Hydrovibe made quite a statement in the independent music world. The band solidified (both on stage and off) and further developed their unique sound on the road. "The songs were road-tested for 9 months and became much stronger than when we had initially set out on tour... the band got a tight unit as well," said St. Marie. "So, we decided to scrap everything and return to the studio to re-record this album when we got home from touring."
"It was a no-brainer for us," said Dauzat, "we were just babies when we left for tour a year ago! We already had great chemistry, but we have really grown strong together as a band on tour, and the songs have greatly benefitted. I mean, what better pre-production for an album than playing the songs night after night for 9 months?"
Upon returning to Los Angeles in late October of 2007, the band went back to the studio Hydrovibe's debut full-length album that includes several new songs as well as the road-tested 2007 live set. With the album nearing completion, plans are underway for Hydrovibe's album release in 2008.
