"...One of London's finest rising talents.."
.. Unearthed Treasures
"...One of the bands to look out this year..."
.. The Independent..
After bursting onto the London live circuit in 2004 with their own very distinctive sound and winning over the hearts and souls of many a young and brave indie gig goer the band have gone from strength to strength. They soon got to work honing their studio skills when asked by several major labels to demo material.
Whilst continuously fine tuning their sound 2006 saw the band moving further a field for gigs. Having demo tracks picked up by University radio stations they soon developed a strong and loyal student following and have played a lot of very lively Student Union gigs around the country and even ventured across the channel for some gigs in France.
Radio play soon followed with the demo track “Man of the Moment†winning the unsigned competition on the indie rock station Xfm.
Another great track “Turn you loose†was discovered by a keen eared documentary producer at a gig in London and was featured on the sound track to the documentary movie “Shadow Companyâ€. The song 'Mary' was chosen by two separate guest listener djs on BBC six music and somehow even made its way onto Spanish Radio!
The band announced themselves to a larger audience at the beginning of 2007 with the release of debut single ‘Shame’, produced by Placebo and Radiohead producer Phil Vinnal, on their own label Onto the Tracks. The single was launched with an instore gig at Fopp’s flagship store in Central London. The promo video for ‘Shame’ was a force of it's own with it's stark look and intriguing narrative and was loved by fans and the industry alike whilst having been made on a shoestring budget. The band enjoyed being closely involved in the process.
‘Shame’ reached national audiences when it was play listed on BBC 6 and featured on the Steve Lamacq show.
Great Bear are currently working on their debut album and can't wait to get gigging again soon.
