Onto the Tracks was started in the summer of 2005 by Tim Larke and Michael O’ Brien. Tim a Music Manager and Mike the Bassist for the band Great bear. Between the two of them, they had both had already promoted their own nights in the past. Tim organised various house nights in the mid to late 90’s and Mike organised an Electro night at the barfly, Camden. The bands they have booked have always been of the highest quality and they pride themselves on spotting a great band, months before other clubs or labels more to the point have even heard of them. Onto the Tracks started in the dirty, but never the less great, 333 basement club in Shorditch. Two years on, and Onto the Tracks has expanded beyond all original expectations, as demos from hundreds of new bands have dropped through the door, the night moved to the more comfortable surroundings of The Hoxton Bar & Kitchen, Hoxton Square.
And as the word had spread around London all walks of music industry life have visited the club… A&R men, DJs, publishers, managers, journalists, lawyers, are all often found tapping their feet to the musical entertainment. Onto the Track’s dream was to be as eclectic as possible in a bid to keep the night fresh and the club goers happy.
A recent nights music spanned from ska to bluesey rock then finished with a Dj set of post-rock, electronica and 60’s hits. It seemed like a natural progression for any club night to want to start their own label. So it came as no surprise when in the winter of 2006 Great Bear went in to the studio to record their debut single with legendary Radiohead and Placebo producer Phil Vinnal. The first release on the Onto the Tracks label, ‘Shame’, was met with excitement by the media and public alike and the limited edition 7inch single sold-out in no time, and was featured a number of times on BB6 Radio by Steve Lamacq and Acid Jazz founder Eddie pillar. Recently Onto the Tracks joined forces with Remixer/Producer Barny cooke and PR Director Kathy Rivans in a bid to expand the label
and strengthen the team.
In doing so the label can offer new bands the gigs, studio recordings and valuable PR needed to be the next big success story.
