Influences: The Lights play music that is a blend of many influences. From the first notes the band plays on their CD, "Walk On Razors," you are drawn into The Lights' world of deep, passionate images and shattered promises. But this is not music for people who have given up. There is a strong and edgy resolve to their music. The music is not avant grade, but it is not mundane. It is simple, yet complex. And it just may make you want to drive faster!
* * * Here's what critics have said about them.
"The Lights deliver rock from both pretension and banality, using interesting chordal passages and melody twists to give new distinction to the rock song." [at The Ritz / Jennifer Shields-Inner City Editor-Music Paper]
* * *"I like this band a lot: they've got guts and grit and they still manage to have a polished act....Well-crafted rock songs are colored by the individual talents of each band member. Charlie Kulis has a distinct presence as a vocalist, balanced by the equally singular sounds of Michael DoCampo's guitar work. Doug Scofield adds a sensitivity that is most welcome on keyboards, tempering a bit of the edge. And keeping it all going is the rhythm section of bassist John Murphy and Bob Capraro, an excellent drummer." [at The Bitter End / Karen Wittenfield -Music Paper]
* * * RECORDINGS...
"I gotta hand it to The Lights. Listening to their album Walk On Razors its clear they did everything right...I hear at least three of these songs going top 40...[Andy Glass/ Independents Day The Music Paper]
* * * "Atmosphere, chops, guts and a literate point of view stamp these guys as ready for a breakthrough." [Goodtimes]
* * * "Strong commercial value. Excellent musicianship. A clean tight sound." [Dark Horse]
* * * "...good enough to cross over to AOR stations with real music...Good hooks, musicianship, vocals, production AND packaging." [L.I. Ear]
* * * "Quality vocals combined with catchy hooks, and seamless production makes Walk on Razors a better than average listen." [East Coast Rocker]
* * * "This music has its pop influence, but The Lights have take this base and conformed it to their own particular style. [Tina Chang/Good Times]
* * * "The Lights mini LP(CD) Walk On Razors is a promising piece of work." [Laura Barbera/ Notes From The Subway - The Kingsman]
* * * "...exhibits a really professional sound with elements of the Cars and other top notch outfits floating confidently on top." [New Paper-Providence R.I.]
* * * ON STAGE
"The tone of casual professionalism remained during the rest of the set, with Kulis projecting a tough swagger during "Little Sister" that was downright Broooce-ish. John Murphy built an Adam Clayton-like tension on the bass (see "With or Without You")' and the dramatic building of the song had everyone enthralled.
* * * The energy level of the band similarly kept building as the show progressed, resulting in a most appreciative response from the crowd. It was certainly well deserved; an obvious intelligence was at work here, perfectly complementing the instrumental prowess." [at The Bitter End / Kevin Zimmerman-Goodtimes]
* * * ON THE NET
This is pure classic AOR, well written, executed and produced. This band shows that the major record companies aren't the only ones capable of getting quality music out there to the public. I'm sure this music will appeal to a lot of Virtual Radio visitors.[Virtual Radio - podcast]
