About Me

I enjoy meeting people with all kind of different interests and backgrounds. So, write me if you would like to have a chat about the latest book you read, movies, philosophy, life or any other crazy thing you want.
By the way, I enjoy drawing, painting and writing short stories. If you have any piece you want to share, please send me an e-mail. Here are a few of my paintings...
"Masks No. 1 to 6", Oil on Canvas (2005-2006)
In the Mesoamerican nahuatl language (one of many Mexican languages and dialects), the word "to wake up" means "to come back to your face". For the Mesoamerican men the human face is the gateway of the soul into the physical world. This belief was embodied in the myriad of sculptured masks that were created across the country in stone, ceramics, wood and other materials. These masks are windows to the soul of Mexico.
In these paintings I experiment with the use of color to explore and alter the original "message" captured in these masks.
"Julie", Charcoal, 2007
"Emilie", Oil on Canvas, 2007
"Christine", Oil on Canvas, 2007
"Stephanie", Oil on Canvas, 2007
"Alaine", Graphite & Chalk on Toned Paper, 2006
And a veil of light falls gently on her
like a cotton rain on the Georgian hills;
And submissive her nightly dreams fade away
with the tenuous shine of the newborn day.
"Woman in Bed", Charcoal on Newsprint paper, 2005
"Study of Alaine", Charcoal & Graphite on Canson paper, 2006
I slice up the onions. You sew up a dress.
This is the quiet echo--flesh--
white muscle on white muscle,
intimately folded skin,
finished with a satin rustle.
One button only to undo, sewn up with shabby thread.
It is the onion, memory,
that makes me cry.
(from "The Onion", Poem by Craig Raine)
"Onions", Oil on Canvas, 2006
Gandhi called poverty 'the worst kind of violence', and poverty is an evil with roots deep in the heart of Mexico. I tried to express such a violence symbolically through the loss of innocence, captured in the face of the kid in the back of the 'Maria' (as the young women who sell their products in the streets of the cities are called in Mexico). The face, though belonging to a very young boy, shows an expression of a much older person.
"The Kid", Oil on Canvas, 1996
The heaviest of burdens crushes us, we sink beneath it, it pins us to the ground. But in the love poetry of every age, the woman longs to be weighed down by the man's body. The heaviest of burdens is therefore simultaneously an image of life's most intense fulfillment. The heavier the burden, the closer our lives come to the earth, the more real and truthful they become. Milan Kundera (from 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being')
"Self-portrait", Charcoal on Fabriano Paper, 1991
In the Aztec myth of creation, the world was destroyed in four past ages, called Suns. The current era is the Fifth Sun, ruled by the sun god Tonatiuh, whose name means He who goes forth shining.
"The Fifth Sun", Oil on Canvas, 1988
My first attempt to paint an impressionist painting (I was 10 years old)
"Rural Landscape", Oil on Canvas, 1982
