PLEASE support autism research. At least make yourself aware of this disability and how it is affecting thousands of children & their families.
Fun, energetic, friendly, honest, passionate people who like to dance, jam, movie-go, and laugh. I love people who find something they truly believe in and do something about it.
Gabriel & Laney. I have the most wonderful man in the world!
Charcoal study of me by my wonderful Gabriel!
Music has always been and will always be my life. I started playing piano when I was 4 1/2 and continued lessons for 10 years. I taught myself guitar, took up the string bass in 5th grade, and picked up a little violin, viola, and cello along the way. I loved flute and clarinet classes in college, and I was just given an accordian, which I'm trying to learn now! (Yay - I can play "Happy Birthday" now!) Since I was a kid I dreamed of becoming a professional musician, singing on a stage, but until recently I was too scared to try! Those of you who knew me before I "found" my voice would be surprised I think! And of course I am ALWAYS performing with orchestras. Though I love performing, my heart and soul truly lie in the music therapy profession. I work hard to learn as much about anything and everything that I can to share with my students so they have the most meaningful experience, including starting my masters in 2008!
As far as listening to music...my taste is very ecclectic....ska, classical, jazz, house, indie rock, country, rap, blues, bluegrass, salsa, world, swing, hip hop....you name it. Everything from Nirvana to Beethoven, Eminem to Robert Johnson, The Kinks to Puccini...I particularly enjoy music that is creative, fun, and inspiring. If it has a great story or history behind it, even better, and I love analyzing song lyrics. Of course with my profession & population I work with, I also know & love the gambut of children's music! Being a kid at heart, that is just fine by me! I will open my mind and heart to anything - suggestions welcome!

I used to be much more of a movie buff than I am now. I saw just about all the movies that came out, and I even took film class to learn more. I don't get to the theater much now - but my VCR is my best friend when I have insomnia! I love Plan 9 from Outer Space, Metropolis (the 1927 version), the Lord of the Rings trilogy (waiting for the Hobbit!), Donnie Darko, the Matrix trilogy, the Bourne trilogy, Mar Adentro, Babel, American Gangster, Monty Python movies...well, okay, I love a lot of movies. I really enjoyed the remake of Pride & Prejudice with Keira Knightly, but I like the book better of course. "Wit" with Emma Thompson is extremely touching and well worth seeing, but be prepared with a box of kleenex. I also have "guaranteed" turn-my-mood around/put me to sleep movies I never tire of. My favorite thing to do at a bad movie is make the most of it and make up goofy commentary with my friends. Recently, I have been watching more movies in Spanish (trying not to use the subtitles!).
If you know what movie these 2 black & whites are from...bravo!!!
I don't watch much TV anymore...When I watch, I like Monty Python, Super Nanny, Daily Show with John Stewart, Monty Python, Sex in the City, Discovery & History channel shows, oh and definately surgeries on tv (like discovery health). I caught the tail end of the last season of Dancing With the Stars...so fun! I still watch Sesame Street from time to time, especially when I'm sick.
I also like to watch football, but I dont' follow the teams except the KC Chiefs. I did watch some of the last World Cup games, which was exciting...but I'll admit my attention was distracted a lot by my friend's 4 year old who is WAY fun to play with!
Your Inner Child Is Happy
You see life as simple, and simple is a very good thing.
You're cheerful and upbeat, taking everything as it comes.
And you decide not to worry, even when things look bad.
You figure there's just so many great things to look forward to.
How Is Your Inner Child?
I love Love LOVE to read. I am amazed by the imagination, the ability to read about any subject you desire, and take your mind anywhere through literature. I am also amazed by mail...but that's completely beside the point. My favorite books are Pride & Prejudice (Jane Austen), Alias Grace (Margaret Atwood), The Secret Life of Bees (Sue Monk Kidd), 1984 (George Orwell), and The Inferno (Dante Alighieri). I also enjoyed Teachings on Love (Thich Nhat Hanh) and any Gregory Macguire book is entertaining. Macguire has such an excellent concept of retelling an old fairtale from a different character's perspective. My latest book is Temple Grandin's "Thinking in Pictures" which I am LOVING!!! Really a helpful perspective in the world of autism.
Oh, and I like to keep a book in my car in case I have to wait somewhere, and I like to read a few books simultaneously, as time permits...whatever suits my mood.
