The Seattle Mandolin Orchestra was founded in 1968 and is dedicated to revitalizing the mandolin ensemble, a tradition originally popularized early in the last century. We showcase the entire mandolin family of instruments, including mandolins, mandolas, mandocellos and mandobass, and our repertoire encompasses many styles, including classical, jazz and folk.
It has been our pleasure to host and present to Northwest audiences many of the world's finest mandolin soloists and ensembles, such as Gertrud Weyhofen and Michael Troester (aka Duo Capriccioso), Richard Walz and Mari Tomizuka, Andre Saint-Clivier, The Helsinki Mandoliners and the Bavarian and Hessian State Mandolin Orchestras, and we are proud to have spawned several chamber groups, including The Emerald City Mandolin Quartet , The Seattle Mandolin Quintette, Duo Solare and most recently, Quartet Syndrome.
