Scooter Simmons , a native Texan, is a preacher’s kid who started out writing gospel songs and singing in church at an early age. Since moving to Nashville in 1988, Scooter has written for McSpadden Music, Benson Music Group, Word Records, Homeward Bound Music and Spring Hill Music Group. He has had songs recorded by the Gaither Vocal Band, the Cathedrals, Steve Warren, Jeff and Sheri Easter, the Martins, Mark Lowry, Gold City, Brian Free and Assurance, the New Destiny Quartet, James Rainwater, Chosen, Scott Wilemon, Amy Bennett, Karen Peck and New River, Ponder Sykes and Wright, Hovie Lister and the New Statesmen, Heritage Singers, Michael White, Ann Marie, Carla Manchester and many more. "Temporary Home" was nominated for a Dove Award in 1992 as Song of the Year and has been recorded by numerous artists since.Scooter served for one year as Coordinator for the Nashville Songwriters Association Christian Music Workshop. He has been a part of gospel music groups throughout his life including The Harvestime Chorale, the renowned Christ Church Choir, Hovie Lister and the New Statesmen, Chariot, The Texas Troubadours and Southern Tradition, a group that he co-founded. He has been privileged to sing background vocals on numerous Christian and Country projects, for artists such as Garth Brooks, Dolly Parton, The Judds, Charlie Daniels, Carman, Reverand Shirley Caesar, Patti LaBelle and more.Scooter lives just outside Nashville with his wife, Gwen. They have two sons, Rusty, who completed two tours in Iraq with the U.S. Army and now attends Middle Tennessee State University and Ritchie, who is a senior at LaVergne High School.
