About Me

Hailing from the South Side of Chicago, Affections Else is a four-piece (now 5 piece, once again, featuring our new guitar play Chris Krum) hardcore band, who does whatever it takes to get where they want to be. Formed around two years ago, in the summer of 04, they have already put out an independently-released CD EP, whipped up a website along with merchandise, obtained a couple independent clothing sponsorships, gone on multiple tours all over the country, and established a solid presence all over the internet.
The Coroners Monologue is the bands debut release. It is a 5 song EP recorded in St. Louis, within 1 month of the bands creation that clearly shows the path that AE plans to follow throughout their musical career. Although not afraid of terms like hardcore, post-hardcore, screamo, AE is also not confined to such terms. Their 2004 debut CD shows a start which can be described by the aforementioned terms, however, their recently-recorded 3 song demo shows a significant musical evolution over a short period of time. After touring and their first release, AE learned where they want to take their music, and are taking all the necessary steps to get where they want to be.
The music can best be described as heavy yet melodic, sometimes fast, sometimes chunky, always loud and always very intense and passionate. Brad Melodys (lead vocals/guitar, yes Melody is his real last name if you were wondering) lyrics and vocals, melodic as well as screamed, can be describes as heartfelt, emotional, dark and light, as well as unorthodoxed. The vocals and melodies are distinct. Although comparable to other bands, their vocals set themselves apart enough that you will never lump them together with so many of the typical postmodern rock bands of today. The guitar work of Brad Melody (guitar/vocals) and Russ Plocicki (guitar/vocals) is always a constant barrage of technical, sometimes metal, guitar riffs, coupled with emotionally-moving rhythmic progressions. Erik Milan (drums/vocals) and Beau Dorans (bass/vocals) bass and drums are never confined to a single or cookie-cutter rhythm. AE doesnt believe in creating the same song twice, while at the same time, securing a sound that is constant throughout all of their music.
Music is not the only thing that Affections Else realizes they have to be good at to do what they want to do in the music industry. Recently, AE secured their spot on the Chicago Taste of Chaos Tour stop at the Aragon Ballroom by constant self-promotion through the internet and touring. After beating out around 50 bands on the online ballot through popular voting, they were then selected by judges from 4 other bands to win the sole spot on the MySpace acoustic stage. Also constantly promoting through the internet has taught the band how to make many fans, friends, and contacts, as well as simply getting their name in peoples faces.
Affections Else wants to record, perform and tour like its going out of style. To sum up their work ethic: they know they can never stop working. It will be a constant struggle to get where they want to be, which is at the top. A struggle that they know they cannot and will not give up on.
