[ WELCOME FROM †REVD FATHER MARK PARIS † ]

May you be blessed by the amazing grace of our Saviour Jesus Christ, the extravagant love of God the Father, and the everlasting fellowship of the Holy Spirit!
I am Father Mark, a Catholic priest and rector of St. David's Parish in the picturesque and historic city of Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom.
On behalf of the members of St. David's Catholic Parish, I offer you this website to tell you more about myself and the enriching and enjoyable life of our vibrant Catholic community.
Being about the business of God is what the Church is called to do. Continuing the teachings and fellowship of Jesus Christ and His apostles, the breaking of the bread and prayers--these are the main ways in which we feel that we can move nearer to God, and we encourage you to join in. The realm of God includes all of us, and the Lord truly loves us all.
It is frequently suggested that if the Church did not exist, someone would invent it. The God we believe in reveals himself through his Creation and supremely through the human race. Our aim is to make sense of him through all our activities, whether worship or interaction of any other sort.
One of the many joys of a team benefice and working in a team ministry is the variety of communities, each distinct, and yet with resources to share. Our parish is at different stages of growth and expectation. We are full of joy and hope, alive in Jesus Christ and reaching out in love to transform the community around us.
I hope that you will find this page and the websites of St. David's Parish and the ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories interesting, informative and helpful.
If you come to visit St. David's Parish, please introduce yourself and tell me where you are from. I look forward to meeting you. You are most welcome to come and worship with us and to enjoy our warm hospitality, whether or not you feel called to participate in any other way in the community.
Thank you for visiting my MySpace. Do make yourself at home and feel free to leave a comment, send me a message and/or an ADD request. Please come back often as I occasionally update the content on my MySpace, including blogs.
Yours for the reign of God,
† The Reverend Fr. Mark Paris †

[ FATHER MARK'S FAQ ]

WHY DID YOU BECOME A CATHOLIC PRIEST?
It might sound corny if you do not believe in God, but I become a priest because I felt a personal call from God. That does not mean I had an experience with thunderbolts and voices or the phone rang one evening. Instead, I had an inner feeling and I grew to know myself better, recognising my talents and abilities.
Over time and with prayer, I came to believe this was the right path for me. I decided to at least give it a try by beginning the initial formation process to enter priesthood.
HOW DID YOUR FAMILY AND FRIENDS REACT TO YOUR DECISION TO BECOME A PRIEST?
That depends. I found that my family and friends were supportive and encouraging. But not everyone experiences that same support.
HOW IMPORTANT IS PRAYER IN YOUR LIFE?
Because I have chosen a way of life which says that God is most important, prayer is central to my life. Think of it as a deep level of communication with God similar to the kind of communication which happens between any two people who love each other. My relationship with God grows and deepens with prayer.
HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO BECOME A DIOCESAN PRIEST?
Generally it takes five or six years of seminary study. A seminary is a college run by the a Church for educating and preparing men and women to be priests.
HOW OLD MUST YOU BE TO ENTER THE SEMINARY?
Today most men enter the seminary after college, university or after working for a number of years. Some people can start as early as 18 or 19 years old and others in their 50’s.
ARE YOU EVER ATTRACTED TO OTHERS IN A ROMANTIC WAY?
Of course! We still experience normal human needs, feelings and desires.
WHAT IF YOU, AS A PRIEST, FALL IN LOVE?
It happens, just as it could happen to someone who was already married! .
Obviously falling in love can be a painful situation for a priest. Yet we know all Christians eventually face pain in their lives.
ARE YOU EVER LONELY?
Never. Being ordained within the Traditional Roman Catholic Church (an autocephalous Catholic Church not in communion with Rome) I can have a happy relationship and do my calling to work with God.

* Anyone seeking to find or recover a spiritual home in Christian community
* Families, children, young people, older people, couples, singles
May the peace of Christ be always with you.
St. David's Parish is a Christ-centered community empowered by the Holy Spirit to receive and share God's love, hope, joy, vitality, and vision as we serve others. We are called in mission to seek the face of the Lord Jesus Christ in everyone we meet, and to let everyone we meet see the face of the Lord Jesus Christ in us. We respond to that call by reaching out to share our resources and serve the needs of others locally, nationally and internationally.

We are old, young, and every age in between. We are straight, gay, single, coupled, married with children, divorced, widowed. We rely on inspired preaching and careful teaching to help us learn the lessons of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the traditions of the Catholic faith. Together we celebrate, grieve, work, study, suffer, laugh, and love. We are broken and sinful and blessed and breathing the love of God.
We take seriously our responsibilities and Christian charges to love one another, and we do so with joy and laughter. We relish the times we come together in community. We have learned to love each other best through a study, worship, fellowship, friendship, and service.
St. David's is formed by its central identity as a Catholic community of worship. From our Christ-centered worship flows the quality of our lives together, our communal efforts to reach out to care for individuals and all of creation, and the ministries of our daily lives and work. Our liturgy is firmly grounded in twenty centuries of Catholic tradition, intact in its intent yet expressed in ways that can reach and hold the wide variety of individuals seeking a spiritual life in the enduring Catholic tradition.
We appreciate preaching that finely balances a clear regard for traditional Christian teaching that is Christ-centered, Scripture-grounded, and rooted in the Catholic tradition. We believe that preaching at its best moves us forward in our faith--inspiring us and challenging us to live out more fully our baptismal vows in a life of Christian service.
Our worship practices, which are vibrant, God-centered, deeply liturgical and sacramental, prompt and energize the members of St. David's to live out our identities as Christ's body in the parish and in the world.
We experience the power of worship together on Sundays, and during the week seasonally. Everyone is welcome at St. David's Traditional Roman Catholic Church at the Lord’s table.
Enriched by the Eucharist and healing services, we show thanks for God’s gifts through offering of service, resources, and prayer.
Life Within the Parish Parish life encompasses all aspects of our journey together in community, but more specifically on welcoming and including newcomers, community building, pastoral care, community outreach, and education.
We believe strongly in the importance of welcoming the stranger, no matter who you are or where you are on your spiritual journey.
The spiritual nourishment that we draw from worship and our lives together makes it possible to live out our commitments to service, whether as individuals in our daily lives or as part of communal parish efforts to care for creation and persons within it.
As the only Traditional Roman Catholic parish in the city, St David's plays an important part in the lives of many. We host many services in the community. The church team are here each day to visitors and for community.
Members of the church are actively involved in many ways with the community. In the City of Cardiff:
* Hospital and home visits and communion are arranged /
* Christian Aid is actively supported /
* Collections of food and other materials are made to support the women's refuge and overseas emergencies /
Connecting with Other Catholic Churches

The Arch Confraternity of Our Lady of Victories Traditional Roman Catholic Church

The community of St. David's Parish has been called to be part of the ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories (AOLV), part of the worldwide family of Traditional Roman Catholic Churches.
The AOLV is an autocephalous (independent) Catholic Church, which is not under the jurisdiction of the Holy See in Rome.
The AOLV's Bishops, Priests, and Deacons posses valid Holy Orders with unbroken Apostolic Succession, which can be traced back to the Apostle Peter. The Apostolic Succession of the Archconfraternity of Our Lady of Victories (Part of the Worldwide Family of Traditional Roman Catholics) - emanates from the Roman Catholic Church through the Ancient Catholic Church of the Netherlands which, in Europe, is known as the Catholic Old Diocese of Utrecht by virtue of papal grants given by Blessed Pope Eugene III in 1145 AD and Pope Leo X in 1520 AD. The Roman Catholic Church regards our Holy Orders and administration of the Sacraments as valid (see the Papal declaration, Dominus Iesus, on the Vatican's Website).
Our Bishop Metropolitan, the Most Reverend Anthony-Earl Williams (Bishop of St. Pancras and Penrhys), provides leadership to us and other parishes in the archdiocese as well as directing a rich array of ministries and programs.
The ArchConfraternity of Our Lady of Victories (AOLV) is dedicated to the proclamation of the "Good News" (Gospel) of Jesus Christ. Our faith is deeply rooted in the historic creeds, liturgies and sacraments of the Catholic Church. We are a worshipping community, a family of believers, and a fellowship of persons living in charity and the love of Christ.
You will find very few differences in doctrine and liturgy between the AOLV/Traditional Roman Catholic and Roman Catholic or Old Catholic churches.
We have much in our history and beliefs that we share in common with other Christians:
* that Jesus Christ was/is the Son of God /
* that the Bible is the inspired Word of God /
* that Christianity is the way that God wants us to live our lives /.
We invite you to discover more ... Learn more about the Church and learn how our home can be your home in Faith. Our members embrace the richness of our Catholic Heritage. For more information about the Arch Confraternity of Our Lady of Victories, a Traditional Roman Catholic Church, please go to:
