Leaving MySpace for good....

About Me

The song being played:
So real. Keep yo head up. God's got you.
"Inner peace requires self and wordly acceptance. As well as threats to others to leave you alone. Invest in it.
Inner Peace. My Anti-everything."
---Abunda Escri

I'm a creative soul with a misunderstood mentality. So grateful to God for alllll of my blessings. I am currently a student at USF hoping to graduate soon! I am very diverse...I have friends of many different backgrounds. This in return keeps me open and constantly learning about different cultures. I am growing and learning. I do NOT know everything. But I'm gettin' there....
Peace Peace
I work
waaay too much. But I don't mind it because it keeps me busy and feelin' "purposeful". I am also heavy into volunteering and giving back.....it's truly something I take pride in. My particular interest in the homeless and hungry. I love helping out folks who could have potentially been me or someone I love. God has been too good, I feel it's my duty to help those out who need it.
Serenity Serenity
I can be so silly at times. I love to be me and HATE being fake.... Don't have much of an attitude--in fact, I can't even deal with those that do. I'm anti a lot of things and lately have become more radical in my thinking. I'll argue all day when it comes to race, religion and politics. I love being a woman of color. I exhalt it, embrace it and attempt to show my admiration for my culture everyday.
Faith Faith
I attempt to always look different and leave a lasting memory everywhere I go. I produce my own segments, do web page designing and have 7-10 short stories which I want to publish someday. I am always trying to keep things as natural as possible. I don't indulge in what's "hot" nor I demean my body or persona. I'm 21 year old who plans on having a career and family in the next few years. No mo playin' games!
Prayer Prayer
In attempts to become more conscious I've discovered that a lot of things in America are simply messed up. I find myself constantly thinkin':
...as if you didn't know.

I'd like to meet:

Not a big groupie for anyone, really. I love culturally conscious folx. Wouldn't mind runnin' into Malcolm Jamal Warner. I am so in love with his hair. Speakin' of hair.....love meetin' folx with bold hair. That whole straight/long hair phase is so played out. Always lookin' to grow, be inspired and inspire folx with coo personalities and intellectual mindsets. I can most defintely do without the stalkers from Nebraska, though. Fo reals.
I have 2 other aliases whom I think need introductions.

Abunda Escri

A.Escri is poetic. She's mellow, intellectual and an optimist. She is constantly writing in her head, uses big words and is always seeking inner peace. A.Escri is an over achiever, a perfectionist and doesn't take criticism too well.
Sista Rebella

S.Rebella is mad, angry and simply does not CARE. She is madd about the system, wants change and is always ranting. S.Rebella is seeking consciousness on a daily basis. Please don't confuse her with a ghetto diva with a 'tude. She's on anotha level.

Music:

I looove smooth jazz (Wayman Tisdale, Dave Coz....love them!) and classical (Vivaldi is pure genius).
But I listen to neo-soul and r&b/soul the most.....Erykah Badu, *Anita Baker*, A.Keys, Anthony Hamilton, Vivian Green, Hil St. Soul, Kindred, Kem, Jaquar Wright, Lalah Hathaway etc..
I am soo old skool! *Earth, Wind & Fire*, Luther, Isley Bros.... I listen to 70's funk all the time! Ohhhh....funkadelic! I shoulda grew up in the 70's!
And of course gospel...Israel & New Breed, Kirk, Shirley, Fred, Cece, etc. Learning to love reggae. And revoluntionary rap like Dead Prez. But very little rap, if any. It's just gettin' outta hand these days. I LOVE jungle too....underground music is really where it's at.I don't like much mainstream music. Turn OFF the radio.
I'm listenin' to nothin' but 90's R&B these days. Troop, Mint Condition, Shai, etc. That or some jazz. Still running away from commercial mainstream music. Ugh!

My Top 5 Albums EVER:
"Greatest Hits"
Earth Wind & Fire
"Unforgettable"
Natalie Cole ..
"Greatest Hits"
Luther Vandross
"Waiting to Exhale"
Various Artists
"Best of Anita"
Anita Baker

Movies:

Idlewild is my FAVORITE! Friday, Set it Off, Diary of a Mad Black Woman and Meet the Browns were sooo good. Hotel Rwanda was amazing. LIFE, Home Alone, The Christmas Story, Coming to America, The Color Purple, A Time to Kill, Barbershop are some other classics.

Television:

I really only watch local news, BBC News, CNN and Nick@Nite. Makes me sound old, uh? I still love Martin, Good Times, Living Single, The Cosby Show, A Different World....mostly ole' Black tv shows that get canceled too early. Oh....and this boi here...

Books:

I like to read Black history books and books about women of color. I also TRY to do Bible devotion. I have to.....gotta remain sane somehow. I love my Black novelists. Too many to name. But like most college students there's very little time for leisure reading. I'm doin' better though....A few of my favorites are below.
"Negroes With Guns"
-- Robert F. Williams
"The Best-Kept Secret"
--Kimberla Lawson Roby
"Your Negro Tour Guide"
--Kathy Y. Wilson
"Ar'n't I a Woman?"
--Deborah Gray White
"When Africa Awakes"
-- Hubert Henry Harrison
.....and more.

Heroes:

Most people say that their Mothers are their heroes. Blah blah blahhhhh....that's easy. My Mom is above hero status. Now Charles Hamilton Houston, Angela Davis and Hubert Henry Harrison were some serious pioneers! If you don't know their history, wow....you're missin' out.Wait, can't forget David Walker and Mariah Stewart. Serious radicals in the 1800's! Both were martyrs for freedom. Matta fact, anyone who can make their voice heard regardless of what people think are all heroes to me.
