Trying to defend a band name like Accidents Never Happen has gotten harder and harder for the now UK - based Norwegian band. The last years have had them losing more members than Michael Jackson’s fan club to everything from plane crashes to good old-fashioned hard headedness, but the core members have seemingly defied the laws of gravity and put out the magnificent album “Oslo Beat†against all odds.
Touring Norway and England made Accidents Never Happen understand that their hometown, Oslo, was not where it was at. The most common reaction to their music in Norway was “Huh??†while England offered more of a positive “Mm-hmm!†and when the band realised that there were effectively 2,7 cities in Norway where people gave a damn, staying was no longer an option, and they relocated to Liverpool in January 2007.
Inspired by Rolling Stones and Sonic Youth alike (to mention a few) the “Oslo Beat†album shows an incredibly versatile band able to balance post hard core, soulful punk ballads and quirky art pop with a cool most bands could only dream of. The ten songs haul the listener through surprisingly different musical settings and leave a convincing impression of a band that won't settle for anything in the middle. Describing the album, lead singer Magz says: “It’s a complete mess, a beautiful mess that isâ€.
With four UK tours behind them, Accidents Never Happen have already left a mark on the British isles, be it blowing Little Man Tate off stage in front of a packed Dublin Castle in London, cracking a hole in the stage in front of 12 people in Stoke or fans at the Rhythm Factory in London describing their live show as watching “bionic frogs on crackâ€. The fact remains that no two songs are the same, as no two reactions are the same. Accidents Never Happen seem to challenge the audience, and do so with a confidence that only comes from being on the right track. But on the question if their expression is excluding to an audience Magz says “Track by track the album makes complete sense to me, and I’m not a smart guy so why shouldn't it make sense to you?â€
The album was released the 18th of September 2006 in Norway, but has still not been released outside of Scandinavia. In the UK it’s only available in the Rough Trade stores. The album has however already been reviewed and written about on English websites:
“Oslo Beat is one of the most fascinating albums to have emerged so far this yearâ€

“After you first hear them they slowly come back to haunt you at all hours demanding to be heard again and you can't help but give in to temptation.†www.Roomthirteen.com
“Accidents never happen have delivered a cracking alt-rock record that can certainly stand tall amongst anyone else peddling this kind of intentionally uneasy listening†www.hardrockhouse.com
“A killer selection of high octane pop with a healthy dose of post punk and some absolute killer hooks, it sounds a little like Hot Hot Heat but with a lot more balls.†Rough Trade
