Rus Whitehouse

About Me

Rus Whitehouse grew up playing various different instruments and for the past ten years has concentrated almost solely on his guitar work and songwriting. Since coming into the acoustic scene through various jam nights, open mic nights and acoustic showcases around six years ago, Rus has become a regular on the music scene in and around Norwich as well as performing at numerous private functions.Amost entirely self taught, Rus has a simple style, often using several simple guitar parts layered up to create a more complex sound when recording. Vocals are often subtle, yet moving and thought provoking with simple harmonies and minimalistic lyrics. Rus has been compared to many of the figures of acoustic music today, which he has taken his influences from and used to create his style, however he cites Damien Rice as his strongest influence.Live shows often consist of a mixture of original material and a range of covers from all genres. Rus has had a warm reception from all audiences including the Black Cat Music circuit, The New Blue Sun Acoustic Showcases and even several Radio appearences. Rus also forms one half of "The Grey Wings", alongside Tim "Spoz" Spoerer. This is an energetic live act, playing an ecclectic mix of upbeat covers and original material, consisting of twin guitar parts, piano sections and drum jams but largely based around Rus' guitar and Tim's Djembe.Rus' debut album "95 Days" is in the final stages of preparation and he is aiming to launch it early in the new year. It consists of both old and new material spanning from 6 years of acoustic song writing. Featuring percussion, vocals and even beatbox parts from Tim Spoerer, it took only nine recording sessions to lay the tracks down ready to be mixed. The feedback from people who have heard the tracks has been positive, and Rus anticipates a good reception of the work when it is released.Quite simply, this is an artist who doesn't take music seriously. To Rus, he performs for the love of it, he writes songs in the hope that he can move someone in some way and he hopes that the fact he has a good time putting his music to people will be reciprocated in his audiences.Enjoy x

Sounds Like: My music is quite simply simple. It is acoustic based, tied to no genre other than when considering the type of guitar used to make it. Nothing more than a few acoustic guitars, a bass and a selection of Djembes and acoustic percussion have been used to make the sound of the original recordings. Echoes of the multiple acoustic guitar parts used by artists such as Damien Rice can be heard, coupled with the simple repetitions of open string tunings brought around through an upbringing listening to and playing folk music. I believe that I have found my niche when it comes to song writing, I am still experimental, yet I am hoping that what you hear on this site you will like as this is the type of music that moves me and I hope it does you. . .
