Patiently Waiting – Sx-Fo “Have you ever seen a military stealth bomber in person, it’s discreet, powerful, silent but deadly. These are just a few words used to describe one of the most seasoned rappers in the south. He’s none other than Eric Dwayne Neal, a/k/a “Sx-Fo.†Born in Richmond Texas, on September 16, 1984, Sx-Fo began his journey as a troubled youth, overcoming many obstacles and using each one as a growing experience, each one making him better and stronger. His music will move you and his presence will devastate you. His ability to rock the mic will blow you away. A lyrical artist/vocalist whose hard work deserves a spot in the mainstream, is ready for the challenge.†That’s his official bio. You want my impression? His lyrics left me speechless and his story left me amazed, inspired and in awe. His mother was 15 when he was born, his father not in his life. Typical, I know. The real story starts when he was 19 and his mom became ill. They lost everything and he found himself homeless, living in an abandoned building, with a son of his own on the way. These circumstances would have been enough to devastate a grown man, but not Sx-Fo. With no real family close by, no money, and no where to live, he felt hopeless for a minute, but one of his good friends told him, “you’re the richest homeless man on earth. You’re sitting on millions, what are you going to do about it?†That’s when he went into the studio and started his project entitled, “Strait Jacket.†The project that left me speechless. The project that the world should be hearing. When you ask him about that time, he says, “I knew that once I got back up, I was never going down again.†He wouldn’t be the man he is, or the artist, had those things not happened to him. Strait Jacket tells the story with so much passion and emotion, you feel every beat and every word right down to your soul. The way music is meant to be. When he walks into a room, every inch of his 6’5†frame is filled with confidence, more than any man his age should possess. When you ask him how he feels about all his fans, he tells you, “I appreciate each and every one of my fans. They are the people who motivate me to keep making great music.†When you ask how they feel about him, they say, “I have been following Sx-Fo’s music since he first met with me and my daughter to dance and act in a video production. Sx-Fo is not only going to take the music industry by storm, he will charm the hearts of any female and have all the men in AWE. Sx-Fo’s music is music that is "real" and in most cases lived through by Sx-Fo himself. We are happy to have met Sx-Fo in the beginning of his career and cannot wait to see him dazzle the stars!!†(Kim and Sydney are from Texas.) “Whenever you work with an artist that has the ability to paint vivid pictures with words, you know that you’re dealing with a true artist. Throughout the Strait Jacket album Sx-Fo conveyed just that. With songs like “Have no fear your baby’s daddy hereâ€, “Still in love with you†and “The reason why I’m jealous†it’s evident that he is not your typical street rapper. Nowadays the streets are full of rappers who can freestyle for hours, write a hot verse in minutes and even have the most marketable personality law can allow. Although Sx-Fo instills all of these characteristics, there is something that sets him aside from many. Sx-Fo is a true song writer, which is very rare. Several times I have found myself stuck in LA traffic while listening to songs Sx-Fo wrote and I get so consumed with the imagery and the journey that his music takes you on, that I’ll almost forget I’m even sitting in a car. So, when you combine an artist like Sx-Fo and a producer like The Key there’s only two things you’ll get…great music and great songs. Be on the look-out for Sx-Fo’s album Strait Jacket… coming soon.†(The Key is a producer in L.A. that Sx-Fo has worked with extensively.) He works with an extraordinary group of people at 30 Below Ent., his family. Everything is done in house, writing, performing, recording, mixing. “No one’s ever gonna be able to say that I made it off a feature or someone else’s work. We do it all ourselves.†While Sx-Fo is looking for the right management company, his team has submitted his music to some of the powerhouse labels in the industry. He’s done several radio interviews and performed on the same stage as Slim Thug, Paul Wall and Nelly, just to name a few. He gets inspiration from his mom, who thankfully made a complete recovery from her illness, the former pastor at his church, who recently passed, but told Sx-Fo that he had a gift, the Bible and his son. He knows he’s destined for greatness. “A diamond, not a star. Stars fall, diamonds last forever.†I asked him where he saw himself 10 years from now. He told me, “I see myself being an icon, a legend, someone that kids and artists want to be like. And, I definitely see myself helping young artists develop. I’m coming!†When he says he’s coming, I believe him. www.myspace.com/sxfo Words by Debbie Miceli, Sx-Fo and the fans.
