Kirk Knuffke

Kirk's Bio -Originally from Colorado, trumpeter Kirk Knuffke has been based in New York since 2005. He is a member of Butch Morris' Orchestra Slang, the Nublu Orchestra, the Jeff Davis Band, Ideal Bread, No Truck, and Kenny Wollesen's Wollesonic.Kirk has recorded with Butch Morris, Kenny Wollesen and Josh Ritter. Alongside fellow sidemen Graham Haynes, Eddie Henderson, Daniel Carter, Tony Sherr and many more. Kirk can be heard on Josh Ritter’s latest CD on Sony Records. Kirk has played with jazz ensembles around the world, including jazz festivals at Saalfeldan (Austria) and Willisau (Switzerland). He has also performed with John Zorn, Tony Malaby,Dave Douglas, Briggan Krauss, Steven Bernstein, Sonny Simmons, and Joe Bonner. Kirk has studied improvisation with great jazz artists Ornette Coleman, Art Lande and Ron Miles. He currently leads his own Jazz and Improvisational bands, including the Kirk Knuffke Trio, Quartet, and a Sextet with Butch Morris. The Kirk Knuffke Quartet was recently given the opportunity to play in the 2007 Festival of New Trumpet Music directed by Dave Douglas.The Kirk Knuffke Quartet’s debut recording on Clean Feed Records is available now in stores and online; featuring Kirk, trumpet and compositions, Brian Drye trombone, Reuben Radding bass, and Jeff Davis drums.
