With songs like 'The Curra Road' and 'The Lark of Mayfield' Ger Wolfe
has been steadily making a name for himself as one of the most well-loved
songwriters alive in Ireland.
This year he celebrates 10 years of recordings, having produced 4 critically
acclaimed albums in that time -“Word & Rhyme”-(1998), “Ragged Ground”-(2002) “Heaven Paints her holy mantle blue”-(2004) and "The Velvet Earth"-(2006)
He has toured over the same period as a solo artist and also with his band
'The New Skylarks", an ecclectic gathering of some of Corks finest musicians
including Edel Sullivan, Martin Leahy, Paul Frost and at times Brid Dunne,
Stella Rodriguez,Cathriona Frost,Geoff Ward, Kevin Murphy,Deirdre Frost and Tom Doolin.
His songs have a broad appeal and his classic song of childhood 'The Curra Road'
has most recently appeared as one of the frontline numbers on Sharon Shannons
new c.d.'Renegade' , as sung by Mike Mc Goldrick.
Ger's songs have also been covered by Karan Casey (Curra Road) North Cregg
(‘Summer at my feet’ etc.) and by DANÚ (‘Standing in doorways’).
Some of Ger’s own recordings have also featured on a number of compilations,
including "Other Voices - Songs From A Room", "The Diamond Mountain Sessions"
and ”CEOL 07”, a compilation of contemporary songs in the Irish language
featuring the cream of Irish talent.
As a writer Ger knows his craft well and writes beautifully.In concert and on recordings
