About Me

I swear this isn't me dancing with Dr Venture
I got a sewing machine for christmas! :D
You have no idea how happy and excited I am. I can't wait to get my hands on some fabric and make something. Who wants some pillow covers? ;)
"The happiness or unhappiness of men depends no less on their dispositions as it does on fortune."
"However rare true love is, true friendship is rarer."
A little about me.
A modern day feminist who loves to knit and crochet and drink beer with her boys. Believes in the Libertarian Party, seperation of Church and State, and Freedom of Marriage. Loves to talk about comic books, cartoons, and travel. Hates close minded people, religious zealots, and deadlines. Knows that well behaved women don't make history, smiling and a positive attitude will get you far in life, and walking to your own beat is much better than caring what everyone else thinks of you. Wears her heart on her sleeve, too much eye shadow, and size 8.5 shoes.
Hey, I'm Mindy. I'm currently working on finishing up my degree at SFSU (San Francisco State University) so I can become a teacher. My major is Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Earth and Space Science. It looks like after the third time I've changed my major is the charm as I'm all set to graduate at the end of 2007. After I get my degree, I'm going to teach English over in Japan for a year or two (or maybe longer, I tend to play my life by ear) but I need to practice my Japanese before I do that seeing as it's gotten a bit rusty. I'm doing it because I love travel and teaching. Also, the experience doesn't hurt. After that, I'm going on to get my masters in Education in Science and Mathematics at College of Charleston, South Carolina. And then I'll be a middle school science or math teacher. I'll be the one shaping your kids minds, dear god, the horror.
I have a strong love for all that is comics (books, not the stand-up kind), and I recommend that everyone go out and pick up Runaways (published by Marvel Comics). Pick up the hardcover while you're at it and read the intro and check out that cool namecheck that I got from the writer Brian. How cool is that?
I also have a huge love of foreign languages and cultures. I speak French and Italian pretty well, and my Spanish is kinda so-so. My Japanese, German, and Portuguese need some love these days, but a gal only has so many hours in a day!
Anyone who knows me from Rocklin/Sacramento might remember me having really really long blonde hair. Well, it's now short and red and staying that way until I can't afford it. I used to be pretty introverted in high school, but that's because I found the immaturity of high school to be pretty draining and I tried to keep my life as drama-less as possible (you'd swear that's my motto, but it's really "Je suis le president de Burundi"). I did 2 years at Sierra College to get my first two years out of the way and then had to make a choice of where to go to University. I didn't want to go to southern California because the fakeness and pollution bugs the hell out of me about LA/San Diego, and I didn't want to stay in northern California any longer. So the bay area it was!
I moved to San Fran to continue studying foreign languages (French and German), but ended up switches my majors around, so that added more time.
*groan*
But I'm almost to the end (2007!), thank the gods. I'm now majoring in Liberal Studies with an emphasis in Earth and Space Science. Living here in SF has been the best choice I've ever made. It's going to be hard to leave when I finally graduate, this city is just so alive! Too bad the rent is so damn high. As far as where I'm going after SF, I'm thinking abroad (Japan more than likely is where I'll end up) and who knows where I go after that!
I'm a pirate at heart; like I ever plan anything out over a year ahead of anything. I'll just sail the seas and let the wind take me where it wants me to go.
Speaking of my piratical tendencies, I love to travel and I have been to the following countries:
France (3 times)
Switzerland
Monaco
Italy
England
Ireland
I'm also legit for hunting terrorist:
Mindy through the ages:

My Interests

Travel, comic books, foreign langauges (especially French, Italian, Japanese, Spanish, Portuguese, and German), music, books, knitting, crocheting, sewing and teaching

I'd like to meet:

*shrug*
Johnny Depp would be nice :D

Music:

First and foremost:
Garbage!
And in no order whatsoever: Tegan and Sara, Everclear, Tenacious D, Cake Like, David Bowie, Dresden Dolls, Frou Frou, Imogen Heap, Joydrop, that dog, Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, The Lovemakers, Michael Bublé, Morningwood, Poe, and Angelfish.

Television:

I only watch two shows: 24 and Heroes. Why do they have to be on at the same time?! ;_;

Books:

"Blood Sucking Fiends: A Love Story" by Christopher Moore. My all time favorite book; describes life in San Fran better than any other book and it's funny as hell. What doesn't say love story but a hopeless writer from the midwest and the red-head vampire who loves him?
Anything else by Christopher Moore is comic gold, and I'm also a huge fan of Harry Potter.
Now when it comes to comics, Runaways is my number 1. The plot of Runaways is that a bunch of LA kids find out that their boring normal parents are really super villians trying to kill off most of humanity for their personal gain. So the kids runaway and try to right their parents wrongs, while trying not to get themselves killed.
I also read Y: The Last Man, Fables, Authority, Crimson, Young Avengers, Walking Dead, Ultimates, Blue Monday, Scurvy Dogs, Manhunter, Nextwave, Ex Machina, Supreme Power/Squadron Supreme, Sojourn, Mister O, and Invincible to name a few.
Yes, girls really do read comics.

Heroes:

Shirley Manson from Garbage

LOVE HER. I was lucky enough to meet her, chat with her a bit, and shake her hand when she came into my store. I can't believe I didn't geek out like I always swore I would if I ever met her. I'm lucky enough that I've met so many famous people that I pretty much don't care/don't freak out when I run into some well known person.
I took that pic of her. I was in the second row in the pit towards the left of the stage and Duke was standing over me most of the time. Best concert of my life. But Shirley is a heroine of mine because she's always been pretty outspoken and I've been a huge fan of Garbage for over 10 years.

Anne Bonny
Who doesn't love a kick ass female pirate?
