Boy just wants to have fun (and travel)

About Me

So much to do, so little time! I love good food and exercise, clean air and water, touch and meditation, men. I love the smell of fog swirling into the Sunset, the crunch of dry August grass at Golden Gate Park, the taste of wild blackberries that grow in the city's wild spaces. I love San Francisco people, riding around together in our little liberal bubble and venturing out only with trepidation. Mountains and trees and the ocean stir my heart. Music and dance and theater stir my soul. I speak a few languages, read the news, ride the Muni, eat big salads, cook for friends. With energies scattered all over the place, service and an attitude of gratitude help keep me grounded.
Professionally I'm a journalist specializing in medical research, a job that takes me all over the world. When the work is done I like to hang out where I landed, or head off to another country before I come home. I try to make friends wherever I go, which leads to a fairly steady stream of people crashing on my living room couch and my visiting them.

My Interests

I swim a couple miles every day. Hiking, backpacking, canoeing, whitewater and other excuses to get out of town with boys. Music, photography, cooking and eating healthy. Digging through thrift stores, garage sales and antique shops is a fine way to spend a day almost anywhere in the world.

I'd like to meet:

Like minds and kind spirits (especially the homo erectus kind) for fun, friendship, and more.

Music:

Just about anything but jazz fusion. Broadway musicals and now isn't that gay. Getting to know opera and dropping in more and more at the symphony. Green Day, Hot Mute, The Go Go's! Blues, rock, pop and hip-hop when it's right. Tasty boy bands. Sundays I sing with my queer church choir, spent 7 years in GMCLA.

Movies:

Who's afraid of Virginia Woolf, Slingblade, Giant, West Side Story, The Wizard of Oz, Maurice, Latter Days, Auntie Mame, Match Point, Polyester, Chinatown, Brokeback Mountain, Good Will Hunting, My Beautiful Laundrette, Nashville, The Last Picture Show, All About Eve, Blue Velvet, Cabaret, Dark Victory, Amélie, Philadelphia, Priscilla, Queen of the Desert, Lost Weekend, Dr. Zhivago, The Graduate, Like Water for Chocolate, Ordinary People, Rushmore, Latter Days, Blade Runner, La Strada, Wild Reeds, Parting Glances

Television:

Bad Lad's Army, South Park, Daily Show, Antiques Roadshow, Colbert Report, McNeil Leher NewsHour, KQED Great Performances, IFC, The Big Gay Sketch Show, Sopranos

Books:

Hard to get beyond the Sunday New York Times, the Comical/Examiner/Guardian/SFWeekly/BAR, Wall Street Journal and the hundreds of news articles I read on the Web every day to crack open a book. But I try!

Heroes:

Gene Robinson and other in-your-face queer heroes. Artists, painters, and wordsmiths. Journalists and doctors on the front lines. People who care about the environment and take active steps in their own lives to improve it: taking the bus, planting trees, recycling til it hurts...
