Inspired by the Germs, but unashamed to display gnarly Rock influences like Black Sabbath, ZZ Top and The Grateful Dead, they were the most important band of American Hardcore. Black Flag kindled a unique, identifiably American response to Punk. Their punishing music, tireless work ethic, and independent attitude - as opposed to prevailing LA Punk egomania - became the inspiration and archetype for all who followed. Few others in Rock history could've survived the conflict, turmoil and opposition these guys faced.
