About Me
David Fitzgerald’s career has combined performing, composing & teaching as well as being something of a journey through various musical environments & genres. Following study at the prestigious Royal Marines School of Music in Deal, Kent, David served as principal flute & saxophone within HM Band of the Royal Marines throughout the world & principally in the Far East (where he also discovered & worked within Chinese musical genres & ensembles). Following some ten years within Her Majesty's RM Band David then moved on to working within the musical world of popular & world cultures (with artists as diverse as Geno Washington & the Ram Jam Band, Bob Miller & the Millermen & the Bournmouth Sinfonietta). He has recorded for many other artists (mainly within the pop industry and also for TV & Radio programmes for the BBC and Indepedent networks). With his Christian faith very much at the centre of his life, David has devoted his time & energy to working with many artists within the Christian Music industry. In 1989, following visits to the islands of Lindisfarne & Iona, he co-founded the musical project IONA , the result of discoveries made into the origins of the Christian faith within these Islands (with the main focus being the Celtic Saints of these Islands and the impact that their lives, writings, art and pioneering work have made & how these continue to influence & inspire to this day). After two hugely successful recordings (Iona & Book Of Kells) David left the project & went back to study at APU (Colchester & Cambridge), focussing two years of this study into the origins & relevance of Christian Music throughout history (in all traditions). He has since undertaken extensive television & recording work (including an inspirational series for BBCTV entitled 'First Light' - produced by the very excellent Graham Judd). David now devotes much of time teaching, adjudicating, playing & directing worship, classical & jazz ensembles and continues to record & appear in concerts as soloist and as guest musician with various artists. For the last 4 years David has been invited to join the very distinguished team of adjudicators at the International Musical Eisteddfod in Llangollen, Wales (which was established in 1947). This is a world-renowned festival of music, song & dance and attracts performers from all around the world. Since 2005 the festival has featured their International Celtic Day, in the shadow of Castell Dinas Bran. This part of the Festival is nothing less than a celebration of Celtic music, song & dance where pipes, fiddles, drums, choirs & Celts from across the Globe compete on stage, in the field & in the Great Pavilion. Do please visit: www.international-eisteddfod.co.uk to discover more about this unique musical event.Over the years, David has toured & recorded with many Christian artists & worship leaders over the years, including Graham Kendrick, Ron Kenoly (USA), Don Moen (USA), Barry & Batya Segal (Israel), Chris Bowater, Dave Fellingham, Paul Field, Don Francisco (USA), Martyn Joseph, Noel Richards, Vinesong (South Africa), Sheila Walsh (USA) & Adrian Snell. He has appeared in many BBCTV 'Songs Of Praise' programmes over the years & worked with artists such as Sir Harry Secombe, Lesley Garrett CBE & the New English Orchestra). David has also recorded for six CD recordings in the 'Celtic Expressions of Worship' series & also for the ground-breaking 'City Of Gold' recordings (which also toured the UK for a number of years). His highly acclaimed solo projects include ‘Columcille’, ‘Lux Aeterna’, ‘Breath of Heaven’ and ‘God Is Love’. These have now been combined to form a 4CD box set, entitled ‘In Paradisum’, and was released by ICC in 2006.[May 2008]
