Founded in 2003 by Benjy Grinberg, the Pittsburgh, PA label Rostrum Records has been developing and releasing the next wave of Urban and Pop/Rock artists.
With huge success by Rostrum’s own Nitty (Rostrum/Universal Records), the label has gone on to sign much anticipated artists Wiz Khalifa, Scott Simons, and the resurfaced 1988 “Top Shelf†recordings (Big Daddy Kane, Grand Puba, MC Lyte, etc.).
While Wiz Khalifa prepares to be the new face of Hip Hop in 2007, early tastemakers have been catching on and the press has been buzzing. With features in Rolling Stone, XXL, Allhiphop.com, Vibe, and his “Pittsburgh Sound†video debuting on FUSE, Wiz will be sure to put Pittsburgh on the map and the industry in check.
Scott Simons has continued to hone his songwriting craft since signing with Rostrum in early-2006, recording new material with a renewed emphasis on keyboards. His songs are being mixed by Neal Pogue (Citizen Cope, OutKast, Stevie Wonder) and John Fields (Bleu, Semisonic, Switchfoot, Andrew WK), produced by Ted Comerford (Zox, Virginia Coalition). Scott is set to release his new EP later this year.
Rostrum Records’ main focus is on artist development. This emphasis has been the driving force behind the label’s current success. Please visit us at www.rostrumrecords.com.
