CARBONE..Introducing “Rackz by the Hundred” Los Angeles, CA – G-R is tantalizing the rap world with the new single “Rackz by the Hundred,” to be included on the untitled hip-hop project G-R has under way. His sound is markedly distinct due to his heavy retro influences and his nerd-hop approach to music. It’s time for the power to change hands in the world of hip-hop, he says. It’s time for the “crack rap” to go the way of the dinosaur and make room for new kings. G-R’s music is making inroads for that goal. “It’s over for that era and it’s time for the nerds, skaters, punks, etc., in the game to get all the money without all the violence and negativity,” says G-R. “Rackz by the Hundred” boasts melodies that will remind of old school ways. There’s a geek fist hidden among the attitude of G-R’s hip-hop. Listeners are apt to call to mind the sounds of Nintendo and other vintage video games as they soak up the samples and melodies bolstering the beats of G-R’s songwriting. “You can always expect to hear some crazy sounds in my music,” he explains. “I’m a huge fan of the 80s and early 90s because that was the era I grew up in so I get a lot of my ideas from retro sounds.” As a Pittsburgh kid, G-R was turned on to rap by an older sister who introduced him to 80s and early 90s rap. Destiny called. “Although most kids dreamed about ‘being like Mike’, I knew that music was the career I wanted to pursue when I came of age.” His dad was a DJ and early on sparked G-R’s interest in a cornucopia of musical styles. G-R’s eclectic tastes would serve him well later when he turned to making his own music and becoming a rap artist, a dream that ignited when he was 16 and began to mature at the age of 19. The young, self-taught artist incorporated a variety of influences into the molding of his hip-hop, everything from skateboard culture to trance to 80s music. “At the end of the day, I’m not worried about the street cred or standing on the corner,” he declares. “My whole life I’ve been trying to find a way to escape all the negativity and now I’m here. My music is for everyone – white, black, blue, skater, goth, prep, whatever! One day soon I’m going to have kids in Japan singing my songs – yeah, that’s definitely a goal for me!” G-R’s originality has already earned him considerable amounts of exposure.
