Heat/Fire/MOOR Fire
A very very long time ago, There used to this emerging form of youth music that energized a generation. Crunc Tesla's Whats Really Rad? LP propels us back to this point of origin. The music, produced by Atlanta-bred Brooklyn transplant Dj Raedawn, is a reunification of todays fractured rap-techno pedigree. Simply put, it is a kinetic energy burst somewhere along the order of Outkast, Squarepusher and The Pharcyde. Acid basslines, gypsy organs, tweaked synths and samples melt onto grimey beats with creamy rapid-fire lyrics that flicker from dark to brilliant. The bipolar fusion of tones melds remnants of middle eastern melodies with dirty south drum kits, dancehall riddims, intensive broken beat editing with even a twist of baroque and crunk bass driven Santeria. What makes it even better is that the vocalists are actually from these areas hailing from Jamaica, Baltimore, D.C., Atlanta and New York. Tes, the Brooklyn-born Lex MC turned french indie-rap icon, delivers the most poppy cut, "Say What You Wanna", while Daddy Foxxy stars on a baltimore club tinged dancehall banger "Voodoo Sound". The cherry on top of this chocolate rap sundae is the melodic genius of M.Sayyid of Airborn Audio and the Antipop Consortium who appears on the afro futurist neo-soul ballad "Lately". Imagine Wu-Tang Clan crashing a nu rave at midnight and you might have some idea how this album is gonna hit the masses. Some journalists might call this record American Grime or something, but honestly, I think this is simply men and women with freedom.
