I LOVE WRITING MUSIC... I LOVE WRITING... HOWEVER... SILENCE IS OFTEN TIMES THE GREATEST FORM OF EXPRESSION.
STEPHANIE ST. JAMES IS CURRENTLY STARRING AS SQUEAK IN OPRAH WINFREY PRESENTS "THE COLOR PURPLE" on tour... A songwriter, singer, actress, and most importantly advocate you can read up on all the latest at WWW.STEPHANIESTJAMES.COM but for now hear what she has to say:I am a daughter of Immigrants. My mother escaped Russia at the end of the cold war when she was 12 years old with a man who was being hunted by the KGB. He left my mom in Israel on a kubbitz and two years later my grandmother got out of Russia and came for my mom. They lived in Jerusalem where my parents met in line in the school cafeteria. My dad was in Israel on a scholarship from Guyana in South America. My brother was born in Jerusalem. My family moved to America, my mom had one dress, eating at Burger King was considered expensive and a Special meal. A black man and white woman who spoke no english, with a mixed child, in the south during the civil rights movement. I was born in Miami, The first Generation American. I lived in this unique world, of interesting people who spoke several languages, and had incredible stories to tell of war, survival, struggle. I have a grandmother who was the only survivor of her entire family at 15 that she saw murdered in the Holocaust. My grandfather was a FREEDOM FIGHTER. And here I am, the American... Raised in the Bay Area in the back woods of Santa Rosa. Where there ain’t shit to do but smoke trees, sit in trees, swing from trees into the Russian River, and be creative. In highschool I met a boy we became friends he was a Bay Area rap artist and part of the Strictly D.O.PE. crew with Tupac Shakur. I spent a lot of time in that circle of artists being observant, being influenced, being inspired. They inspired me to write and showed me what it truly meant to have your own voice. I ended up in NYC booked some amazing gigs as a vocalist that took me around the World. I’ve been seen across America and the Globe as Rusty in the First National Broadway Tour of "Footloose", Mabel in the European Tour of "FAME", the Narrator in the Scottish and U.S. Tour of "Celtic Fusion", Garry Marshall’s "Happy Days’ Musical", Barry Gordy’s Aint No Mountain High Enough Musical workshop at Center Theater Group in Los Angeles, and as Squirt in the workshop of "Finding Nemo" the musical, and the World Premiere of Dorian at the Denver Center, to name just a few. I will soon be playing Squeak in Oprah Winfrey Presents "The Color Purple" a Tony award winning musical based of the Pulitzer Prize Novel by Alice Walker and Oscar Nominated film by Steven Speilberg. I have met people and experienced things I thought would only be just dreams. My singing, acting and my music has allowed me to work and share stages with Barry Gordy Founder of Motown, Suzanne Depasse, Carole King, Garry Marshall, Paul Williams, Freda Payne, Al McKay of Earth Wind and Fire, blah blah blah. Now after many years I’ve taken my poetic skills and applied them to doing my music. I am the descendant of survivors in the truest form, instilled with beliefs of such powerful messages you can only imagine... I am a child of love, of survival... anything I dream, anything I desire, is attainable. I believe Humanity is the World’s Religion and that music is a tool to share messages of love, peace, unity, respect, compassion. .. Myspace Layout Generator-Layoutgen.com
