Marcos Guimarães

Brazilian singer and composer Marcos Guimarães is a constant researcher of the Brazilian Popular Music, sounds and harmony, rhythmic solutions, and grooves of several styles. His involvment with new technologies of digital edition and recording did not prevent his four CDs have been recorded so far from having balance between present and past. Even because the aplication of new musical concepts, acording to the artist, must always respect the paths that are already kown by the tradition of good music. The thought of betting in the fusion of modernity and tradition is not only circunstancial, but the very result of previous musical experience. Thus, at each show, Marcos reveals his musical personality, resulting of his several influences, benefit of his eclecticism. Originality in the arrangements, accurate vocal work, vigorous performance and a repertoir that explores several musical styles – from Samba to Jazz, a ride with many scales. These define the essence of the musician. His work reflects not only the multiple facets of the repertoir ( good stuff of Brasilian Popular Music), anthological and comtemporary stuff, such as Chico Buarque, Jobim, Ivan Lins, Djavan and Beatles, among others. Also the kind of interpretation, with arrangements of his own and of his personality, having moments that range from innermost to explosive moods, full of lyricism, swing and cumplicity, in a game of involvement that brings listeners together. The singer gives special treatment, with his unique voice, to melodies and expressive lyrics of the popular repertoir, in doing so, he manages to register an interpretation that is safe, not giving smoothness away when it comes to his voice and that rhythmic eclecticism of his arrangements for the guitar. The very arrangements are made having in mind the quest for sensitive sonority for some classics of MPB with “new garment” in which Brazilian rhythms, Caribean and North American grooves share pure harmony, giving more richness to the swing of the songs. This very artist has produced four independent CDs : “Serras Gerais” ( 1996), “Fantasia” (2004), “Lembranças” ( 2005) and a single “Assim tanto faz” ( 2007).
