Burn them Ralph. Burn them all!

About Me

I am a figment of my own imagination. I may add to the lists of books, films and music below, should I have the time and (heaven forbid) the inclination. As it is they represent a very random and limited selection of the things I like. There are many more. I write poems and stories in my spare time and listening to music is a kind of clinical illness I cannot shake. I currently live in Glasgow where I am studying English Literature, Philosophy and Latin in the first year of my degree at Glasgow University.

My Interests

Reading books, writing stories and poems, listening to music and watching films. All at once. It's not easy, but it's certainly interesting.

I'd like to meet:

You. You specifically. Yes, that's right - you.

Music:

All Saints (yes, really), Alabama 3, Alice In Chains, Audioslave, Arcade Fire, Animals, Arctic Monkeys, Babes In Toyland, Bangles, Beach Boys, Beatles, Beta Band, Belle & Sebastian, Big Brother & The Holding Company, Black Sabbath, Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, Blondie, Bob Dylan, Butthole Surfers, Breeders, Camera Obscura, Cat Power, Catatonia, Charlatans, Cibo Mato, Clash, Carpenters, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Dandy Warhols, Drugstore, Delgados, Doors, Distillers, Echobelly, Eels, Elvis, Feist, Foo Fighters, Fratellis, Fiona Apple, Green Day, Ghostface Killah, Gravediggaz, Howlin' Wolf, Hole, Happy Mondays, House of Pain, Inspiral Carpets, Jam, Joy Division, Johnny Cash, Joanna Newsome, Jem, Kasey Chambers, Killers, Kinks, Led Zeppelin, Lucinda Williams, Love Is All, Moby, Motown, Mamas & Papas, Nirvana, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Pixies, Pogues, Pavement, Primal Scream, Pulp, Raveonettes, Rage Against The Machine, Ramones, Radiohead, REM, Regina Spektor, Sex Pistols, Stone Roses, Sonic Youth, Sleater Kinney, Specials, Steve Earle, Shout Out Louds, Supremes, Shonen Knife, Sheryl Crow, Strokes, Talking Heads, Terrorvision, Velvet Underground, Velvelettes, Wu-Tang Clan. Favourite sound tracks include Pulp Fiction, Ghost Dog: Way of the Samurai and O! Brother Where Art Thou? And a million more which I have not remembered while typing this nonsense...

Movies:

Indiana Jones, Beat Takeshi films (particularly Hana Bi, Sonatine and Zatoichi), Betty Blue, Amelie, City Of Lost Children, Garden State, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Ghost Dog: Way Of The Samurai, Magnolia, Pulp Fiction, Unforgiven, Open Range, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, The Sting, Happy Gilmour, Monty Python's Life of Brian, Casablanca, Uncle Buck, The Last of the Mohicans, Legends of the Fall, Vanilla Sky, Full Metal Jacket, Batman Begins, A River Runs Through It, Sliding Doors, Four Weddings and a Funeral, The World According To Garp, Breakfast Club, Goonies, O Brother Where Art Thou?, The Pianist, Twelfth Night (BBC version with Ben Kingsley et al), Dead Poets Society, Twelve Monkeys, Chasing Amy, Supergirl, Armageddon, Wasabi, Diva, The Big Blue, Barton Fink, Meet Joe Black, Zoolander, Big Fish, Rififi, All About My Mother, All About Eve - and many more.

Television:

Friends, ER, Simpsons, OC, Never Mind The Buzzcocks. I haven't watched a lot of tv for a while, so this selection is probably a bit dated.

Books:

The Unbearable Lightness of Being, Catch 22, Great Expectations, The Great Gatsby, Metamorphosis, Spring Snow, Slaughterhouse Five, Cancer Ward, Crime and Punishment, Emma, Eugene Onegin, Anna Karenina, The Fuck-Up, The Go-Between, Mrs Dalloway, Cry, The Beloved Country, Wild Swans, Henry and June, 1984, Atonement, Pushkin (a biography) The poetry of Dylan Thomas, GM Hopkins, George Herbert, Conrad Aiken, WH Auden, EE Cummings, Sylvia Plath, TS Eliot, Emily Dickinson, Louis MacNeice, Bill Shakespeare, John Donne, Andrew Marvell, Dante Gabriel Rossetti, HD, Arthur Waley, Elizabeth Bishop, Anne Sexton and many others.... and a host of extra mind-boggling philosophy shenanigans to boot, embracing religious texts from Egypt to India and back to Britain again (especial mention must be made of the Bibble (sic) as it has incredible passages - eg Song of Songs &c) as well as more fashionable secular philosophical texts which shall not be named since people may ask follow up questions which reveal my tenuous grasp of any meaning conceived therein.

Heroes:

Batman, Green Lantern and the Silver Surfer. And Kermit THE frog.

If music be the food of love, play on, give me excess of it...

I like music.  For it is written, yea, that it IS good.  I have recently seen a few people live and in the flesh whom I feel deserve a mention to the world at large.  Firstly, a little ...

Not Available In The Shops   And now, I wondered, is this the authentic song, or simply an advertising jingle? And I recall that her body shone in the darkness of the room; and I recall with awe...
